Facilitators and coaches have access to the Class console of each class they're assigned to. There are three key parts to the Class console and you can use it for quick navigation, to view key information at a glance and for deeper analysis and insights.

To find it open a class from your dashboard or select Class console from the side menu of a class you're already in.

Check out our intro video below or read on for more information on using the Class console.

Using the Class console

To show you all the Class console has to offer, we'll need to look at the three key parts:

Each part has a slightly different focus or purpose.

The banner

If you facilitate or coach for more than one course, the dropdown in the banner lets you easily switch between courses. No more navigating back out to your main dashboard!

The tiles

The tiles show you key information at a glance with options to view more information or edit available depending on your role and permission level.

  • The Learners, Facilitators and Coaches tiles show you who is in the course and with what role. Facilitators and coaches can select View to see more information. Main facilitators can select Edit to add or remove people from the course.

  • The Duration tile shows you how long the class is open for. Main facilitators can edit the dates.

  • The Most days without progress tile shows you which learners have gone the longest time without an increase in their progress. This can be useful for spotting learners that might need support or encouragement to re-engage. Selecting View takes you to the Learners tab (seen below the tiles) with the list already filtered.

  • The Tasks to mark tile shows you if there are any facilitator-marked assessed tasks ready for you to mark. Selecting Mark takes you to the Marking tab (seen below the tiles) with the list already filtered ready for you to jump in and mark.

  • The Pulses and Insights tiles will take you to the relevant tab (if turned on for your organisation).

  • The Badge tile lets you view badge information including how many learners in the class have earned the badge.

The tabs

The tabs show the key areas where you'll do a deeper dive of actions or analysis.

Learners Tab

Under Learners you can quickly see key information such as: progress, tasks completed, comments added, and badge status.

You can also search, filter, sort and choose how many learners to show per page.

Search

If you want to find a specific learner, you can search for their name (first or last).

Sort

You have a whole range of options for how you choose to sort learners. And you can use the toggle to set whether it is ascending or descending.

Sort filter in the Class Console showing sort options: Name, Progress, Assessed tasks submitted, Assessed tasks marking required, Non-assessed tasks submitted, Non-assessed tasks marking required, Comments, Last session, Started date, Time since last progress increase.

Sorting can be really useful for spotting trends. For instance, if you sort by Progress you can spot learners who might be ahead or behind the rest of the class. Or by sorting by Last session you can spot learners who might need a reminder to get back into the course.

Filter

You also have a range of options for filtering. You can combine any number of filters to really narrow down the learners or actions you’re looking for.

Filtering can be useful to identify where action is needed so you can focus your facilitation efforts. For instance, filtering to show those waiting for their badge to be awarded.

Using sort and filter together

You can also use the filter and sort together. For instance, you could sort by Time since last session and filter to show Task due in the next 10 days to spot learners who might need a reminder email of completing an important task.

There are a range of things you might want to achieve so we encourage you to check out some of the blog posts linked at the bottom of this article for more examples.

Marking tasks from the Learner tab

Selecting either of the task buttons (non-assessed or assessed) will take you straight to where you can view (and mark) tasks for that learner.

Image shows the expanded view for assessed tasks for learner.

Marking Tab

Under Marking, you are able to mark by task as opposed to by learner.

What else can you see?

Learner, shows which learner the submission information is for.

Submitted on, shows the time and date of when the task was submitted or if it has not been submitted yet.

Status, shows the where the task is sitting e.g awaiting marking, marked.

Marked by, shows who marked the task or whether it was automarked.

Mark, shows what mark (if applicable) the learner received.

Passed, shows if the task has been passed (if applicable). e.g green tick for passed, red cross if they have not met the pass criteria and nothing if no pass mark is set for the task.

Submissions, select view to see the learners submission.

Attempts, shows how many attempts the learner has made.

Resets, shows how many resets the learner has had.

Image shows marking tab view, with one of the tasks expanded to show learners and their status for that task.

The learner sees a summary after submitting a task, the can see when they submitted the task, it's status, score, pass mark and can review the submission.

Filtering

By default, tasks are ordered by marking status (those tasks awaiting feedback at the top) but as with the learners tab, you have options for searching, filtering and sorting to organise the view how you want depending on what's important to you at the time.

For instance, you might like to filter to show only those tasks Awaiting marking.

Opening up a task lets you drill into the detail of learner submissions and mark submissions. Hover over the Submitted on text to see individual due dates. Individual start dates will show if the course has been set up with relative dates which gives each learner their own assessment due dates based on their start date.

Pulses

Under the Pulses tab you can review the results of any pulses you've sent this class activation.

Insights

Under Insights you'll be able to view graphs relating to learner activity in this class activation.

Reported content

Under reported content you'll be able to see any content that has been reported by learners along with the reason. From here you can either confirm or decline the report. Confirming the report will result in either the course author(s) being notified of the report so that the content can be updated and/or stored for your organisation to review and action with their own workflows.

Summary

The Class Console is really powerful and there are a range of ways to leverage it to make the most of your facilitation. Check out some of our blog posts relating to getting the most out of the Class Console:
