What can each role do in Chatter?

See what Owners, Managers, Staff and employees can do in Chatter, and why someone cannot post.

For: Owners, Managers

Your role decides what you can do in Chatter. The rules are the same in every organization.

What can each role do?

  • Owner: turns Chatter on or off, changes the quick replies and GIFs, posts, reacts and removes any message.

  • Manager: posts messages, quick replies and GIFs. Edits or deletes their own typed messages. Removes any message and reacts. Can read the Chatter settings but cannot change them.

  • Staff and other read-only admins: read the channel and react. They cannot post.

  • Enrolled employees: react with a heart and reply with quick replies or GIFs in the Jolly app. They cannot type their own messages.

  • Employees who are not enrolled: do not see Chatter.

How do custom roles work in Chatter?

A custom role follows its Chatter access. Read access means read and react. Write access means post like a Manager. No Access means the person is not in the channel. To learn about roles, see What can each admin role do?

Why can't someone post?

They are Staff, or their custom role has read access only. They can still read and react. An Owner cannot change who may post.
