When delivering orders, couriers communicate with store employees and customers every day. Even a few basic Lithuanian phrases can help you collect orders faster, communicate more easily, and avoid misunderstandings.
Here, we will briefly explain the Lithuanian language requirements and share practical learning tips and useful phrases for everyday situations.
Lithuanian Language Requirements
From 1 January 2026, people who provide customer service directly in Lithuania must be able to communicate in Lithuanian. This requirement also applies to couriers who communicate with customers during deliveries.
For the first two years after the document confirming your right to live in Lithuania is issued, you must know Lithuanian at least at A1 level. This is a beginner level that allows you to understand and use simple everyday phrases.
If the document was first issued before 31 December 2025, the two-year period starts on 1 January 2026.
After two years, if you continue working in customer service, you will need at least A2 level Lithuanian.
An exception may apply to people who have been granted temporary protection in Lithuania. It depends on your status, so we recommend checking your individual situation.

How Can You Start Learning Lithuanian?
Start with a few phrases that you often need at work. You do not have to learn everything at once. The most important thing is to practise regularly and not be afraid to speak.
Spend 10–15 minutes learning every day. Repeat a few phrases before starting work.
Learn phrases for specific situations. Practise phrases used in stores, when speaking with customers, or when there is a problem.
Listen to the pronunciation. Pause the recording after each phrase and repeat it out loud.
Use new phrases at work. Even a simple greeting or thank you is good practice.
Learn the most useful words. Numbers, addresses, door codes, order numbers, and times will be useful almost every day.
Keep a phrase guide on your phone. When needed, you can quickly find the right phrase or show it to another person.
Do not be afraid to make mistakes. Most people understand that you are still learning, and every short conversation will help you feel more confident.
