How can I automate and cap discounts?
How can I automate and cap discounts?

Discounts can apply automatically by day, time or the products in an order, up to a user-set maximum discount percent.

Updated over a week ago

Discounts in Meadow can be either manually applied at POS or in Admin, or set up to apply automatically during order creation.

You can set up discounts to apply automatically by day of the week, time of day, brand, category, and product/option.

Expiration Date (optional)

  • Set the date after which the discount expires (it will be applicable through the end of the date selected).

Days of the Week

  • Select a day on which you would like the discount to automatically apply. Only one day can be selected - to apply the same discount to multiple days, create a duplicate of the discount for each day.

  • If you would like the discount to apply every day, leave "All days."

Time of Day (optional)

  • Set a start and end time each day for the discount to apply, for example an early bird discount that applies to orders created between 8 and 11 AM.

  • The timeframe must be within one day (automatic discounts start/stop times can't span more than one day).

Categories, Brands and Products (optional)

  • Select any brand(s), category/ies or product(s) you want to trigger an automatic discount.

  • Any brand/category/product selected will trigger an automatic line item discount for applicable products in the order (up to any maximum discount cap).

Maximum Discount Percent (optional)

  • If set up, the maximum discount will be limited to a percentage of the order subtotal. For example, if an order has a $100 subtotal, a 10% maximum discount will cap discounts at $10 cumulatively. Once the $10 cap is reached, the value of the last discount will be capped and other discounts will not be applied.

  • A line item can be discounted more than the maximum % cap so long as it does not exceed the cap at the order level (subtotal).

Important Notes on Using Automatic Discounts

  • Conditions for automatic discounts (time, brand, etc.) trigger when they are applicable. They do not limit the discount to the specified time/day/products and it can still be applied manually at the user's discretion.

  • Line item discounts are applied automatically before order-level discounts. $-based discounts are applied before %-based discounts.

  • The minimum quantity field only applies if a brand/category/product is selected.

  • The "Max Discount Percent" cap applies to all orders while they are being created; managers and full permission admins can toggle any higher manager cap by entering their PIN to confirm. There is no way to enter a manager override in Admin, only POS.

  • Caps apply only to the order level, not the line item level. You can sell a deeply discounted product (beyond the discount cap) so long as the cap isn't exceeded at the order-level.

  • If more than one value (brand/category/product) is selected for automation and a minimum quantity is entered, the minimum quantity will apply across those values. For example, if a discount applies to edibles and pre-rolls with a minimum quantity of 2, an order with 1 pre-roll and 1 edible would trigger the automatic discount.

  • Discounts with a specified brand/category/product apply at the line item level to any applicable products in the order. Discounts will apply to every applicable line: a single line with multiple units would be discounted together; multiple lines would be discount individually. This means a $-based discount could be applied only once or multiple times depending on the number of lines.

  • Only discounts apply to the cap: other changes to the order value like store credit, loyalty redemptions, adjustments or rounding discounts do not figure into the maximum discount cap. For example, if a discount cap is hit and rounding is applied, the cap could be exceeded by up to $0.99 if using "always round down."
