Managing subscriptions just got easier—for you and your members. With MemberVault’s “Click to Cancel” feature, your members can now cancel their own subscriptions directly from their account dashboard, reducing your administrative workload and improving their experience.
Before you get started, make sure you have:
At least one subscription-based product set up in MemberVault.
Watch the Video Tutorial here, or check out the written steps below!
Subscription Types Overview
Not all products behave the same. Here’s what’s supported:
Stripe Payment Plan: One-time payments split over time; not cancellable mid-plan.
Stripe Subscription: Monthly or annual recurring charges; cancellable via Click to Cancel.
PayPal Subscription: Recurring billing through PayPal; cancellable via Click to Cancel.
💡 Note: The Click-to-Cancel feature only works with subscriptions, not one-time payment plans. Rest assured, your members will not see an option to cancel a payment plan.
What your Members will see:
Before this update, your members only had the ability to update their card associated with a payment plan or recurring subscription. Now they'll see a cancel option next to subscriptions as well.
Your members can find a list of their purchases under the "Billing" menu which is available in the top right corner of your MV site under the profile icon.
If the payment is a recurring payment, they will see a gear menu to the right of the product with up to two options:
For payment plans, the gear icon will only show the "Update card" option. For ongoing subscriptions, however, this will show both the "Update card" and the "Cancel subscription" option.
When your member clicks "Cancel subscription," a pop-up window will appear to ask if they're sure they want to cancel. Once they click "OK", the page will refresh and show that their subscription is cancelled, and what date their access to the product will expire.
Email Notifications
When a member cancels, both you and they will receive an automatic notification email from the MemberVault system. Currently this is not customizable, though we do intend to add this a future update.
Here is the email your members will see:

How your Members can Reverse their Cancellation:
If your member decides they don't want to cancel after all, and they still have time before their access expires, then they can go back to the gear icon on the Billing page in your MV and click "Reactivate subscription".
You as the admin can also reactivate this on their behalf if they ask you to do so! Here's how to do this from your admin dashboard:
Under the "Activity" Tab in the left side panel, click "Sales".
Scroll down until you see "Pending Cancelations"
Click the "i" payment button to the right of the customer whose payment information you want to see.
You'll see a green "reactivate" link in their payment info. Click this to restart the member's subscription.
Similar to the cancelation notification, you'll receive an automated notification email from MemberVault when a member reactivates their subscription:
It is only possible for you or your member to reactivate a Stripe subscription. Once PayPal subscriptions are cancelled, there is no reversing this, and your member will need to repurchase the product.
New Options for Canceling your Members' Subscriptions
Even though your members can now cancel their own subscriptions, you as the admin can still do this on their behalf, along with a few more automated access options.
Follow the usual steps to manually cancel a member's subscription. Now however when you go to Cancel, you can set your members' access to the following:
Immediately remove access (best for issuing refunds or when the customer does not want to keep access)
Remove access at the end of their current payment period (all cancelations are set to this by default)
Keep Access (best for gifting a product to a member or if you're shutting down a membership but allowing past members to keep access)
Set up Actions based on your Members' Subscription Status
Along with the click-to-cancel update, you now have three new action triggers you can set based on your members' cancelation activity:
Cancellation Pending
Cancellation Complete
Subscription Reactivated
You can use these action triggers to add a tag in your email service, send yourself or a team member an email notification, etc.
