How to use YouTube with MemberVault

YouTube is primarily a video sharing tool rather than a video hosting tool, which means that it is going to act a little differently than hosting platforms such as Vimeo, Loom, etc.

The main differences are that your members will see a list of recommended videos to watch on YouTube in your video screen after viewing your video, and they will also have the ability to download your video. There is not a way to turn this off either in YouTube or MemberVault.

If any of the above is a concern, we highly recommend opting for a video hosting platform that gives you more control over your viewer's options (ie. Vimeo, Loom, Tella, Muse.ai, etc).

YouTube also discourages keeping YouTube videos behind a paywall, which means you should avoid adding YouTube videos to any paid products in your MemberVault account.

So why do we allow you to embed YouTube videos?

There are still public-facing or free product options that you can make in your account, and YouTube is a great free option for adding these videos to certain areas of your MemberVault account.

Some examples of where you could keep a YouTube video include:

There are two ways to embed your video content from YouTube into your MV account -- in most cases, you'll be using the second option:

  1. Use the video embed tool that's provided in each lesson.

  2. Embed the video directly in your text editor area using the 'insert/edit media' option.

Option 1: Use the provided video embed tool that's provided in each lesson.

  1. Click into the lesson you wish to edit, and select "YouTube" from the dropdown menu under Video Type:

  2. In the Video Link section that appears below, you'll need to copy your video share link from your YouTube video.

  3. Go to your YouTube Studio, and locate the video you wish to add under "Content." We recommend using Unlisted for your visibility settings, unless you want this to be a Public video embedded on your site.

  4. Hover over the video until you see the three dot menu appear, click this, and then select "Get shareable link."

  5. Paste this link into the Video Link box on your MemberVault site. Your YouTube video should pop up in the Video Preview box. Note, the link that displays in the box will look different from the link you copied from YouTube -- this is normal!

Option 2: Embed the YouTube video directly in your text area using the 'insert/edit media' option.

  1. In the Lesson Text Editor, select Insert Media.

  2. In the pop up box that appears, click "Embed".

  3. This time you'll need to grab the embed code from YouTube. This time, click "Watch on YouTube" when hovering over your video, then click "Share." In the pop-up window that appears, click "Embed".

  4. Copy the embed code.

  5. Paste your embed code into the pop-up box in MemberVault, click Save, and you're all set!
