The Alternate Exercise Library gives you flexibility to personalize your workouts—without sacrificing structure or results. Most Moves workouts include PT-recommended alternate exercises to help you adjust movements based on your equipment, injury, mobility, or daily needs.
Who Is This For?
Alternate exercises are ideal for anyone who wants to:
Adjust an exercise based on available equipment
Modify for injury or mobility limitations
Swap in a preferred movement
Customize the feel of a workout while staying aligned with the program
When to Use Alternate Exercises
Use alternates whenever a movement in your workout doesn’t feel quite right, whether because:
You don’t have the required equipment
You need a lower-impact or modified version
You’d prefer a different movement targeting the same muscle group
You want a little variety
Note: Not all workouts or exercises have alternates available.
How It Works
Before a Workout (Workout Overview Screen):
Tap on the exercise you want to replace.
Click Alternates.
Choose from recommended alternates or select your own based on available equipment, movement preference, or targeted muscle group.
Hit Swap to confirm.
During a Workout:
List View: Tap the 3-dot menu icon and select Alternates from the drop-down.
Guided View: Tap either the 3-dot menu or the swap icon on the exercise image to access alternates quickly.
When viewing alternates, each option will include a short description (e.g., easier, knee-friendly). Tap the exercise image for a detailed info screen with full guidance.
Choose Your Own Alternate
You also have the flexibility to select your own alternate based on available equipment, movement preference, or target muscle group. This allows you to personalize your workout while keeping the program structure intact. Access our full list of alternates by clicking More Alternates.

Our programs are intentionally designed with expert structure—sets, reps, and progression are crafted for safe, effective results. While we don’t allow full customization or adding arbitrary exercises, the Alternate Exercise Library lets you personalize your workout while staying true to the program’s intent. You get flexibility without sacrificing results.
