What is Coach?
Coach is OneUp's coaching module for target-driven teams. It's where you and your manager run 1:1s, track goals, manage actions, and review your performance. Find out more ➡️ here.
Accessing Coach
To access Coach:
Click Coach in the main navigation bar
You'll see your coaching relationship with your manager
If you don't see the Coach menu, you may need the "Access Coach" permission. Ask your manager or OneUp administrator to enable it.
You can also add Widgets on your dashboard to see your upcoming meetings, as well as any to-do or overdue actions. Find out more ➡️ here.
What you can see
As an individual, you have visibility into:
All meetings: Past and upcoming 1:1s with your manager
Goals: Your long-term development objectives
Actions: Tasks you've committed to (and tasks assigned to your manager)
Targets: Your current performance against OneUp targets
Shared notes: Notes taken during meetings that both you and your manager can see
Private notes: your own private notes taken during a meeting. These are not shared with your manager, or anyone else.
What you cannot see
You cannot see:
Your manager's private notes: Just like you have your own private notes, your manager also has theirs.
What you can do
Coach is collaborative. You can:
Add agenda items to upcoming meetings
Update your own goals and track progress
Mark actions as complete
Add comments to your targets (e.g., explaining why you missed a metric)
Add shared notes during or after a meeting
View your performance history over time
Use this access to take ownership of your development.
Preparing for 1:1 meetings
Review your performance
Before each meeting, take some time to:
Open the upcoming meeting in Coach.
Review your Targets: What did you hit? What did you miss?
Check your Goals: Are you on track? Do you need to adjust timelines?
Look at Actions: What did you complete? What's still outstanding?
💡If your numbers look off (e.g., you were on holiday or CRM data is missing), add a comment to the target. This gives your manager context before the meeting starts.
Find out how to add comments ➡️ here.
Add to the agenda
If there's something specific you want to discuss, add it to the agenda:
Open the upcoming meeting.
Scroll to Agenda.
Click Add item.
Type your topic (e.g., "Discuss promotion criteria" or "Request shadowing opportunities")
Update your goals
If you've made progress on a goal, update it before the meeting:
Go to the Goals tab.
Find the relevant goal and select it to open it.
Add a comment on the page, or select Edit to update it's status.
This keeps the conversation forward-looking, not backward-looking.
Tick-off any actions you've completed
Actions carry forward to the next meeting automatically, so you'll always be reminded of commitments.
As you complete tasks between meetings, mark them off in Coach:
Go to the Actions tab in your coaching relationship.
Find the action.
Mark it as Complete.
Tips for getting the most from Coach
Prepare before every 1:1
10 minutes of prep makes the meeting 3x more valuable. Review your numbers, update goals, and add agenda items.
Own your goals
Don't wait for your manager to set goals for you. Propose your own development objectives.
Be honest about blockers
If you're struggling with a target or action, say so. Use 1:1s to solve problems, not hide them.
Use comments to add context
Numbers don't tell the full story. If you missed revenue because you were training a new hire, note it.
Complete actions on time
Follow-through builds trust. If you commit to something, do it. If you can't, renegotiate the deadline.
Ask for what you need
Use 1:1s to request shadowing, training, mentorship, or resources.
FAQs
Can I export my own performance history for my records?
Yes, absolutely. Individual meetings are exportable. Simply navigate to the meeting itself, and then select export, under the settings icon on the right.
I'm off sick or on holiday - will this affect my targets in Coach?
Your targets will continue to track as normal (based on your CRM activity or lack thereof). However, your manager could adjust your targets in OneUp for the selected period, by inputting a target of 0. Find out more about making changes to targets ➡️ here.
Alternatively, you can both add comments to targets explaining absences. This context is crucial for fair performance evaluation. For example: "On annual leave for 2 weeks - adjusted expectations for this period."
What if I spot an error in my target data (e.g., missing placement)?
This data comes from your CRM integration, not Coach. You'll need to fix it in your CRM (e.g., Bullhorn, Vincere). In the meantime, add a comment to the target explaining the discrepancy.
