Discomfort or Pain When Using Perifit Care(+)

Understand the possible causes of discomfort during pelvic floor training and learn how to make your sessions more comfortable.

Perifit Care and Care+ are designed to help you strengthen your pelvic floor comfortably. You shouldn't experience pain during training. If you do, don't worry: understanding the possible cause can help you find the right solution. However, never force insertion or continue training through pain.

What can cause pain or discomfort?

1. The device may not be the right size

Every body is different, and so is every vaginal anatomy. If you feel that Perifit Care is too big for you, Perifit Care+ could be a better option. It is smaller and designed to fit the vaginal canal better.

2. Too much training

Yes, it's possible to overtrain your pelvic floor muscles! Just like any other muscles, they can become fatigued or sore if you do too much.

If you're new to pelvic floor training, start with short sessions of around 5 minutes, 4 days a week, and gradually increase your training as you become more comfortable. If you suspect that overtraining is causing your discomfort, take a few days off before resuming with short sessions.

3. Not enough lubricant

Some users find insertion more comfortable with a small amount of water-based lubricant, particularly around or after menopause. Start with just a drop, as too much lubricant can make the probe slippery and cause it to slide out.

4. Vaginal dryness

Vaginal dryness can have various physical or psychological causes and may make insertion uncomfortable. A small amount of water-based lubricant can help with comfort, but we recommend consulting a gynaecologist for a long-term solution suited to your situation.

5. Menopause or perimenopause

Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can cause vaginal dryness, increased sensitivity and irritation. These symptoms may make insertion or the use of vaginal devices uncomfortable. A gynaecologist can help you identify suitable options to relieve your symptoms.

6. Changes in vaginal health

Changes in the vaginal microbiota or conditions such as vaginal infections can sometimes be associated with dryness, irritation or pain. If you experience recurring infections, vaginal dryness or pelvic pain, consult a qualified healthcare professional to identify the cause and discuss appropriate treatment.

7. Possible sensitivity or allergy to silicone

Although Perifit Care(+) is made from materials selected for their suitability for medical use, sensitivity or an allergic reaction to silicone is possible, although uncommon. Symptoms may include irritation, swelling or inflammation.

If you suspect an allergic reaction, stop using the device and consult a healthcare professional. You can also contact our support team to discuss possible alternatives, including whether using a condom with the device is appropriate.

What should you do if the discomfort persists?

If you've tried the suggestions above and still experience pain, stop using Perifit Care(+) and contact our support team for assistance.

More importantly, we recommend consulting a gynaecologist or pelvic health physiotherapist to identify the underlying cause and find the most appropriate solution.

Remember: pelvic floor training should not be painful. Never force insertion or push through discomfort.
