I'm not getting my verification code on a non-US phone

Why international phones may not receive verification codes and what to try.

Rent Butter sends phone verification codes by SMS through a US-based service. If you're applying with a non-US phone number, you may have trouble receiving the code.

What's happening

Some carriers outside the US block short-code SMS messages from US senders, or charge extra fees that prevent delivery. Even when delivery works, it can be delayed by several minutes.

What to try

  • Wait longer β€” international SMS can take 5–10 minutes

  • Tap Resend Code after the cooldown ends

  • Check your spam or filtered messages

  • Contact your carrier to make sure short-code SMS isn't blocked on your line

If you have access to a US phone number

If you have a US phone (a friend's, family member's, or your own US-based number), use that number instead. The Resend Code link on the verification screen takes you back to phone entry where you can change the number.

If you can't receive the code at all

Contact your property manager β€” they can work with Rent Butter to manually verify you and move your application forward.
