Help patients access Affirm as a payment option (Admin Panel)

Learn how patients select Affirm at checkout in the Patient App, what to expect during Affirm’s application flow, and how to set accurate expectations before they apply.

Overview

Patients access Affirm only when checking out in the Patient App. After adding eligible items to their cart, they select Affirm as the payment method, complete Affirm’s real-time application, and choose from 1–3 payment plan options with terms from 3 weeks to 36 months.

This article is for front-desk staff, managers, and admins who walk patients through Affirm checkout in the office or answer questions about how Affirm appears as a payment option.

Before You Start

  • Affirm must be enabled for your practice’s RepeatMD app.

  • Patients must download and sign in to the Patient App before checkout.

  • Cart totals must be $50–$30,000 USD with no memberships in the cart for Affirm to appear.

  • Approval is an Affirm decision, not RepeatMD. You cannot confirm or deny whether a patient will be approved.

  • For the full patient checkout path, see Finance a purchase with Affirm (Patient App).

Why It Matters

When your team understands the Affirm access path, you can:

  • Guide in-office sales by helping patients complete checkout on their phone.

  • Set accurate expectations on approval, terms, and where payments are managed after purchase.

  • Reduce checkout friction by confirming cart eligibility before the patient reaches Affirm.

  • Direct post-purchase questions to Affirm when the issue is about installment payments, not the RepeatMD order.

How It Works

App-only checkout. Affirm is available only for in-app purchases. Patients add services to their cart in the Patient App and select Affirm at checkout. There is no Affirm option outside the app.

Real-time application. At checkout, Affirm redirects the patient to complete a short application:

  • First-time users enter basic information and verify their mobile number with an SMS PIN. Underwriting typically takes about 15 seconds.

  • Returning Affirm users sign in with their phone number and receive a faster decision.

Payment plan selection: Approved patients see 1–3 options with terms from 3 weeks to 36 months, depending on cart size, credit history, and your practice’s Affirm program. They review monthly payment, term length, maximum interest, and total cost before confirming.

After confirmation: Once the patient confirms their plan, the RepeatMD order processes. The patient manages installment payments at affirm.com or in the Affirm app, including AutoPay.

Affirm account creation: Patients can create an Affirm account through multiple paths. See Affirm’s account creation guide for details.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Walk a patient through Affirm at checkout

  1. Confirm the patient is signed in to your Patient App.

  2. Help the patient add eligible treatments, packages, or products to their cart.

  3. Verify the cart total is between $50 and $30,000 USD and does not include a membership.

  4. At checkout, have the patient select Affirm as the payment method.

  5. On Affirm’s screen, the patient completes the application (new user) or signs in (returning user).

  6. The patient reviews Affirm’s 1–3 payment plan options and selects the term that fits their budget.

  7. The patient reviews the Truth in Lending Disclosure and confirms the plan.

  8. Confirm the order completes in RepeatMD. Remind the patient that future payments are managed in their Affirm account.

When Affirm does not appear

  1. Check cart total ($50–$30,000 USD).

  2. Remove any memberships from the cart.

  3. Confirm no restricted items block Affirm.

  4. If the cart qualifies and Affirm still does not appear, contact support@repeatmd.com.

Best Practices and Pro Tips

  • Confirm cart eligibility before checkout: Fixing cart issues upfront avoids a failed Affirm attempt at the payment screen.

  • Do not promise approval: Affirm evaluates each application independently. Set expectations that approval is not guaranteed.

  • Mention Affirm before or after treatment, not while the patient is in the treatment area, when discussing financing options.

  • Use Affirm-approved messaging when promoting financing to patients.

  • Direct installment questions to Affirm: RepeatMD does not manage loan payment schedules after purchase.
