RELEASE 3.32.2 (December 12, 2025)

This release contains support for electrical engineering stencils, improved support for the ST.26 standard within the sequence manager, and other fixes.

Electrical Engineering Stencils

Rowan has added stencils to support creation of circuit diagrams within the drawing tool. These include a variety of amplifiers, resistors, capacitors, grounding elements, and more, as well as improved stencil connection behaviors.

For details around the stencils, see the overview article here.

Sequence handling improvements

To finish Rowan's efforts around ST.26 compatibility, the sequence manager now addresses the following features:

  • Management of skipped sequences

  • Modification of nucleotides and amino acids, including variant sequences

  • Improved import and export support of ST.26 documents

  • Removal of ST.25 export

For details on the process, look into our article on Describing Large Molecule Sequences.

Figure tag customization

Users can customize how figure tag text is displayed within the specification, as well as how figure ranges can be displayed.

This includes being able to customize whether the software uses FIG versus Figure, and how ranges are displayed within the specification.

Other improvements and fixes

  • Tables - when importing from .docx files, Rowan does a better job at preserving column widths

  • Ability to flip and mirror stencils within the drawing tool

  • In the drawing tool, the parts list syncs with figure navigation again

RELEASE 3.31.1 (November 6, 2025)

This release contains improvements to the sequence manager alongside bug fixes and UI refinements.

Preparation Improvements

Sequence handling improvements

As part of an effort to shore up ST.26 compatibility within the application, Rowan's sequence manager now addresses adding and editing the following parameters:

  • Inventor

  • Applicant

  • Organism details for each sequence

  • Intentionally skipped sequences

The software now also detects of sequences with duplicate bases or amino acids, to help users catch issues either on import or during export.

Additional text justification options in the Drawing Tool

When selecting a stencil with an element label, there are now additional options for customizing label placement. There are now options to place the label around the outer perimeter of the stencil as well as within the stencil, at the top left/right and bottom left/right corners.

Compound customization

When creating molecular drawings within the ChemDraw software, Rowan is now able to inherit styling parameters from source .cdxml files. These settings include default bond length, drawing size, and letter font among other parameters.

In the Document Settings, users can upload a file with their preferred styling, and the software will render drawings with those styles moving forward.

Prosecution Improvements

Edit molecular drawings in the Response Writer

For the cases where a molecular drawing needs to be updated during prosecution, Rowan now allows users to leverage their molecular drawing program of choice to make these updates.

Other improvements and fixes

  • Able to customize units of measurement as part of document setup

  • New "Recent Files" option in the menu

  • Additional sorting parameters for document templates

  • Fixed a bug in prosecution around equations not exporting properly

  • Fixed in bug in preparation around text disappearing when creating R-Groups with images in the text

RELEASE 3.30.2 (September 16, 2025)

This release contains a plethora of bug fixes, functional improvements, and UI refinements including some performance improvements.

Prosecution Improvements

GenAI Functionality in Prosecution

As part of the Rowan team's push to give our users access to GenAI tools, we've brought the inline AI Chat and AI Sidebar to the prosecution module. With these features, users can now leverage their preferred AI models to help in crafting office action responses while leveraging Rowan's tools.

First-to-File Integration

Rowan is rolling out an integration with Clarivate's First-to-File service, starting within the prosecution module. This integration allows the Rowan software to link with the First-to-File widget, allowing users to fetch associated office actions and claims from the IPMS. It is the first piece of a broader initiative around meeting our users where they work.

Additional EPO drafting improvements

Line numbering on document export

An often-requested feature is the ability to have line numbering within exported documents. To that end, the ability to export a document with line numbering is now available within the File Settings, under Document Styles.

Additional phrasing settings around multi-dependent claims

Within the claim text settings now lies the ability to adjust the phrasing of multiply-dependent claims. Language can be adjusted using the most commonly found phrases to account for claims with different parent scenarios, including contiguous and noncontiguous two parent claims and ones with 3 or more contiguous or noncontiguous parent claims.

General improvements

Drawing Tool Right-Click Menu

To accelerate access to options within the drawing tool, there is now a right-click menu that triggers when on the canvas. This feature gives shortcuts to common functionality found within the drawing tool including showing and hiding the guides and grid, adding a sheet, finding parts on the canvas, and more.

Figure ranges within the main drafting window

We've heard our users loud and clear - they want to be able to use and track figure ranges like they can with claims. With this latest release, our users can now adjust figure ranges in the detailed description by clicking on a Figure label and selecting the relevant options. This changes the tagged reference to a range, similar to multi-dependent claims tags.

Part Reference Styles

There are more ways to customize part references within the Document Styles section. There continues to be support for part name + number in plain text. We have added support for a bolded part number (part 102), an italicized part number (part 102), and a bolded and italicized part number (part 102).

Other improvements and fixes

  • More label adjustment settings

  • Duplicate parts to Figure

  • Additional part number styling settings in the Specification

  • Word-style superscript and subscript toggles

  • Batch stencil rotation undo fixed

  • Drawing tool connector improvements

  • Find and Tag R-Groups

  • Now using Clarivate's Azure OpenAI endpoint instead of the OpenAI enterprise endpoint

  • Landing page improvements

RELEASE 3.29.0 (August 1, 2025)

This release is centered updating how Rowan performs code signing on the software along with minor bug fixes.

LLM Configuration Improvements

The user interface and backend for LLM configuration have been updated. Users are now able to add multiple instances of Azure and Portkey.AI for model access. The new interface allows for more streamlined model management. In addition, users are now able to give their models unique names within the software to allow for easy identification during selection.

Other improvements and fixes

  • Fixes for improved copy-paste of molecular drawings from Word documents and Biovia Draw

  • Additional document window styles available from the dropdown (i.e. header, footer, figure caption, heading levels 4 and 5)

  • Updated code signing certificates

  • Improved error logging for disappearing images in the drawing tool

  • Bulleted list level 3 uses USPTO-approved fonts
