Introduction

  • Purpose: Segments allow you to divide your community into targeted subgroups for personalized challenges, rewards, and communications. This guide will show you how to create and use segments to engage the right ambassadors at the right time and maximize your community’s impact.

  • Context: A Segment is a group of ambassadors defined by specific tags (e.g., location, school, interests) on their profiles. You can target challenges, rewards, feeds, and notifications to these segments, and track performance across different demographics.

Requirement

  • You must tag ambassadors so you can create ambassador segments. Read more on How to Create Tags.

How to Access the Segment Tab

  1. Log in to the SocialLadder Admin Portal.

  2. Navigate to Ambassador Management > Segments (located in the left-hand sidebar).

How to Create a New Segment

  1. Click the + Add Segment button.

  2. The following page should pop up. Fill out the following:

  • Name: Create a clear, descriptive segment name, e.g., “Midwest Users”.

  • Description: Create an internal note of reference for easy identification.

  • Group Name (optional): Create an organization category that can function as a filter to classify and search by campaign, purpose, or region.

  • Tag Rules: This is where you set the logic for including or excluding users based on the tags they've been assigned. Each rule category works as follows:

    • “Must have ALL of these tags”: Users must have every tag listed here to be included in the segment. → e.g., onboardingcomplete

    • “Must have at least ONE of these tags” = At least one of the selected tags is necessary for ambassadors to be listed in the segment→ e.g., student, creator, writer.

    • “Must NOT have ANY of these tags” = Users who have any of the tags listed here will be excluded from the segment. → e.g., privatesocials, facebookonly.

Notes: Tags must be a continuous word with no spacing.

  • Make Segment Badge (optional): If you select this option, you can display this segment as a badge, which makes it visible to ambassadors for public recognition. Learn more about How to Create Badge Section below.

    • Example: A “Top Creator” badge can appear on an ambassador’s profile if they meet specific criteria.

  • Replicate Segment in External CRM: This option is used with the email marketing tool Klaviyo. Check this box if you want to create and send emails from Klaviyo to this segment. Read more: Configuring Email and Segment Integrations between SocialLadder and Klaviyo

3. Click on “Add” to save the segment.
