Customer segments let you tailor pricing and tax to different customer types. This article explains how to enable segments, configure each price and manage segmented bookings.
Before you start
Customer segments must be enabled for your account before you can configure them. Contact Stora Support if Customer Segments does not appear under Pricing.
Your role also needs these permissions:
Manage products
Manage tax rates and display settings
What customer segments are
By default, Stora uses the same prices and tax rates for every customer.
Enabling customer segments gives you two groups:
Private: The default segment. Customers use this segment unless they choose Business.
Business: A second segment with its own prices and tax rates.
You can rename both segments. For example, you could use “Personal” and “Trade”.
Customer segments are useful when:
Business customers use a different VAT or sales-tax rate.
You want to offer Business customers different prices.
You want Business prices to appear without tax.
Products or insurance cover use different tax rates for Business customers.
How to enable customer segments
Open Pricing > Customer Segments in the Backoffice.
Select Set flexible prices for Private vs Business customers under Pricing model.
Review the Private and Business segments shown below.
Click Save Pricing Model.
You can also start from Pricing > Price Management by clicking Set Up Customer Segments.
Once saved, Stora adds separate Private and Business prices and tax rates to eligible items.
How to rename a segment
Open the segment’s … menu.
Select Rename.
Enter the new name.
Press Enter.
Click Save Pricing Model.
The new name appears anywhere customers or team members choose a segment.
How to return to one price for everyone
Open Pricing > Customer Segments.
Select Same prices and tax for all customers.
Click Save Pricing Model.
Stora keeps your segment settings and prices. You can enable them again later without rebuilding them.
How to set prices and tax for each segment
Each unit type, custom product and insurance level can have a separate price and tax rate for each segment.
Set segment pricing for a unit type
Open the relevant site.
Select the unit type.
Click Edit.
Find Enter prices (inc. tax).
Enter a Private price and Business price for each billing period.
Select the tax rate for each segment in the Tax rate row.
Review the tax summary beneath each segment.
Click Save.
The billing period used on your Storefront is highlighted and marked Billed on Storefront.
Custom products and insurance levels work in the same way. Open the item, enter each segment’s price and tax rate, then save your changes.
⚠️ Prices are entered including tax. Changing a tax rate does not change the price you entered, so check the final amount before saving.
Set multiple segment prices in Price Management
Use Price Management when you want to configure many items in one place.
Open Pricing > Price Management.
Find the unit type, product or insurance level you want to update.
Enter the price and tax rate for each segment.
Repeat this for the remaining items.
Save your changes.
Items without a configured segment price display Not set.
⚠️ Business settings do not fall back to the Private settings. An empty Business tax rate applies 0% tax to that item.
⚠️ If a unit type has no Business price, customers cannot book it as Business through the Storefront.
How dynamic pricing works with segments
Occupancy-based pricing rules apply to both segments. Each segment’s price changes from its own starting price.
💡 Prices must sync with Stripe after you save them. If you see Price updates in progress, wait one minute and refresh the page before editing again.
How customers choose a segment on the Storefront
The Storefront displays a Booking for choice with one button for each available segment.
Private is selected by default.
Changing the segment updates prices and tax throughout the booking.
The selection applies to units, insurance, products and deposits.
Customers can switch segments before completing the booking.
The Business option only appears when Stora can calculate the complete booking:
The unit type must have a Business price for the Storefront billing period.
If insurance is required, at least one cover level must have a Business price.
If these requirements are not met, Stora hides the segment choice and the customer books using Private pricing.
How to choose a segment in the Backoffice
Start a new booking.
Find Customer segment beside the unit details.
Select the required segment.
Review the updated prices and tax.
Complete the booking.
A customer segment is required for every new Backoffice booking.
How segments affect a subscription
The selected segment remains with the subscription throughout its lifetime.
View a subscription’s segment
Open the subscription and find Customer segment in its booking details.
Subscriptions created before you enabled segments display Not recorded.
Edit a subscription
When you add or change items, Stora uses the tax rates belonging to the subscription’s segment.
Apply price increases
Bulk adjustments under Pricing > Price Increases use the tax rate for each subscription’s segment.
Create bookings through the API
Bookings created through the API or an integration use Private unless the integration specifies another segment.
Limitations
You can currently use two segments: Private and Business.
You can rename both segments.
You cannot delete a segment.
Support for additional segments is planned.
You cannot change a subscription’s segment after completing the booking.
If you no longer need separate pricing, select Same prices and tax for all customers. Your segmented prices remain available if you enable them again.
Troubleshooting
Customer Segments does not appear
Contact Stora Support to confirm that the feature is enabled. Your role must also have Manage products and Manage tax rates and display settings permissions.
The Business option is missing from the Storefront
Check that the unit type has a Business price for the Storefront billing period. If the unit requires insurance, check that at least one insurance level also has a Business price.
The tax-rate row is missing
Per-segment tax editing may not be enabled for your account. Contact Stora Support for help.
A Business customer is being charged 0% tax
Check the Business tax rate on every item in the booking. Stora applies 0% when the Business tax rate is empty.
Check your setup before going live
Before accepting Business bookings, confirm that:
Every unit type has a Business price for each required billing period.
Every unit type, custom product and insurance level has the correct Business tax rate.
Insurance levels required during checkout have Business prices.
You have completed a test Storefront booking as a Business customer.
You have checked the final prices and tax totals.
🚀 Once these checks are complete, customers can select the appropriate segment and receive the correct prices and tax.
