Before you start
You can only choose tax rates that already exist in your account. If the rate you need is missing, create it first. For help, see Creating tax rates.
How to check and set tax rates from the Pricing page
The Pricing page is the quickest way to see the tax rates on all your unit types at once.
Open the Pricing page in Stora and select the Unit types tab for a site. Each unit type's current tax rates are listed in the Tax column, after the price columns. If a unit type has more than one rate, they're all listed, for example, VAT (20%) and Local tax (5%).
To change a unit type's tax rates:
Find the site and select the Unit types tab.
Click the pencil icon at the end of the unit type's row.
In the Tax column, select the tax rates you want to apply, or choose No tax.
Click Save changes.
Only the unit type you edited changes. Other unit types at the same site keep their own tax rates.
For more about the layout of this page, see How to view and edit prices across all your sites.
How to set tax rates from a unit type's settings
Go to Unit types and open the unit type you want to update.
Click Edit Unit Type
Find the Pricing section and select a tax rate from the dropdown.
Click + Add tax rate if you need to apply another rate.
Click Update Unit Type.
Once you save, the new tax rates apply to new bookings for that unit type.
To make the unit type tax-free, select No tax in the first dropdown.
⚠️ New unit types start with No tax. Check the tax rates before making a new unit type available to book, or customers won't be charged tax.
How tax changes affect prices and subscriptions
All prices in Stora include tax. Changing a unit type's tax rate doesn't change the price the customer pays. It changes how much of that price is tax.
Example:
A unit costs £120 a month with 20% VAT. That's £100 plus £20 VAT. If you change it to No tax, the customer still pays £120, but none of it is VAT. To charge £100 instead, update the price separately.
New tax rates apply to new bookings only. Existing subscriptions keep the tax rates they were created with. To update them, see How to edit a subscription's pricing, tax and discounts.
💡 When you copy a unit type to another site, its tax rates are copied too, including a No tax setting. Check the rates are right for the new site.
