What are the common reasons for delivery failures or delays?

Understanding why a delivery might fail or be delayed can help you better prepare and set the right expectations for your customers.

Reasons for delivery failures

  • Insufficient address information - The driver cannot locate the customer's door due to missing or unclear details. The driver will attempt to call or message the customer. If there is no response, the delivery is rescheduled for the next available day.

  • Customer not available - If the customer is not reachable after multiple attempts, the order may be flagged or marked for RTO.

  • Customer refusal - The customer declines to accept the package. You decide whether to reattempt or return to origin.

Common reasons for delays

  • Oversized packages - Orders classified as oversized are typically scheduled for next-day delivery to ensure proper handling.

  • Consolidated delivery - If a customer has multiple orders (including oversized items), all orders may be grouped for a single delivery trip the next day.

  • Remote areas - Deliveries to Al Ain, Fujairah, or RAK take 2-4 business days.

  • Address updates after cutoff - If an address is corrected after the daily cutoff, the delivery moves to the next business day.

Good to know

  • Clear, complete addresses significantly reduce delivery failures.

  • Customers are notified via WhatsApp at each stage so they’re prepared to receive their delivery.

  • swftbox makes up to 3 delivery attempts before marking an order as RTO.
