Using TalkingPoints Attendance During Summer School

Requirements for using TalkingPoints Attendance during summer school, including org IDs, attendance codes, file timing, and what to do if you’re not using Attendance over the summer.

Updated this week

If your district runs summer school and uses TalkingPoints Attendance, here’s what’s required to keep automated absence messages working during summer programs.

Requirements for Using Attendance During Summer School

To use TalkingPoints Attendance for summer school, the following must be in place:

  1. Attendance is purchased for the schools running summer school

  2. Attendance has been enabled for this school site (in the cases where there is a unique school used only for Summer School, it may not be. Be sure to fill out the survey sent by your PSM or reach out to partnersupport@talkingpts.org to let us know you'd like us to enable it for your summer school site(s).

  3. Your attendance data is sent in time to process on our servers, about 30 mins before automated messages are scheduled

  4. Automated messages are configured with appropriate timing and content for summer school

Summer School at the End of SY 25–26 vs. Start of SY 26–27

If summer school is part of SY 25–26 (before rollover):

  • Ensure your 25-26 calendar file includes summer school dates

  • Your existing Attendance file includes the attendance data you wish to use in the Attendance dashboard

  • Check that automated message timing still makes sense for summer schedules, if not, adjust

If summer school is the start of SY 26–27 (after rollover):

  • Send an updated calendar file and ensure your calendar file includes summer school dates

  • Your existing Attendance file includes the attendance data you wish to use in the Attendance dashboard

  • Check that automated message timing still makes sense for summer schedules, if not, adjust

If You’re NOT Using Attendance During Summer School

If you want automated absence messages to stop during summer school:

  1. Disable automated messages in your TalkingPoints settings

  2. Re-enable them before the new school year starts
