I am sick. What should I do?

Cancel your shift via the platform and potentially inform the hiring company

If you’re feeling under the weather, here’s how to manage your shift depending on when it starts. Remember, your health comes first, and we're here to help!

1. If you’re sick more than 48 hours before your shift:

  • Cancel your shift on the app. Expecting to be out for a longer period? It’s best to cancel your upcoming shifts as soon as possible.

  • There's no need to contact the hiring company, but if you think they are specifically counting on you, do let them know!

2. If you’re sick less than 48 hours before your shift:

  • Inform the hiring company as soon as possible. Effective communication with the company strengthens the relationship and increases the likelihood of being chosen again. It also allows the company to arrange a timely replacement if needed.

  • You don't need to find a substitute. That’s not your responsibility.

  • Cancel your shift via the app. Expecting to be out for a longer period? It’s best to cancel your upcoming shifts as soon as possible.

  • Also report your sickness via the Temper app. Go to ‘Chat with support’ and select ‘I am sick’ and follow the instructions.

3. You became sick during your shift:

  • If you became sick during the shift and at the location, the hiring company will probably already be aware. Do make sure to inform the right person about your leave and let them know if you you’ll need to cancel upcoming shifts.

  • Report your sickness via the Temper app. Go to ‘Chat with support’ and select ‘I am sick’ and follow the instructions. We’ll assist you from there.

If you are sick and not employed through Temper

If you are not currently employed through Temper when you become sick, Temper cannot report your sickness for you. In this situation, please contact the UWV (government organisation for sickness and unemployment benefits) directly to discuss what to do next and whether you may be eligible for benefits. You can reach the UWV by phone at 088 898 92 94 (from within the Netherlands).
