Managing Handicaps with Golf Genius

Playing Handicaps are an integral part of managing events and leagues. They are a way to balance the field and make the competitions as fair and equitable as possible.

In this article, we will discuss how to manage and use Handicap Indexes and Playing Handicaps in our software.

Uploading and Updated Handicap Indexes:

It is very easy to upload and update Handicap Indexes for your players. Whether using GHIN, UK-WHS, GolfNet, or other services, we have many options for you. Click Here for all the options.

Handicap Settings in the Event/League Profile:

Every event and league has handicap settings (as shown below). To access these settings, go to League/Event > Event/League Profile > Handicap Settings. You can also set up the default handicap settings for all of your events and leagues by going to Customer Center > Customer Settings > Default Settings for Leagues and Events.

Course Rating and Slope:

To compute Playing Handicaps, the Slope Rating and Course Rating of your course(s) is needed. To enter this information, go to Customer Center > Customer Settings > Course Details and edit or enter your course.

Pairings and Handicap Indexes:

Handicap Indexes can also be used when creating pairings. Pair by ABCD, AB, by Handicap Index, and even optimize the pairings so that the Handicap Index total between all the pairing groups is even as possible (option found in the Rounds and Scheduling Settings in the Event/Profile).

Tournaments and Playing Handicaps:

The primary purpose of Playing Handicaps is for scoring tournaments. Whether setting up a single round tournament or multi-round tournament, there will be many handicapping options available to you (as shown below).

The options available to you will depend on the format, competition, and balls being used.

Handicap Analysis:

The Handicap Analysis is a great tool to use to better understand how Playing Handicaps are computed. To access this functionality, go to Rounds > Handicap Analysis (as shown below).

Handicapping 9-Hole Tournaments:

Playing Handicaps can be computed a few different ways when playing 9-Hole tournaments. The computation methods depend on the type of Handicap Indexes and Course Slope/Ratings being used. For more details, Click Here.
