Using Trunk Tools as a Superintendent
This guide is for Superintendents who want answers from the field without going back to the trailer. It covers texting Trunk Tools from your phone and the questions that save supers the most time.
Note: This guide is about your job, not your permissions. To see what your Trunk Tools role allows, see Understanding Roles & Permissions.
Take Trunk Tools to the Field
Once you're added to a project, you'll get a text from that project's own Trunk Tools number. Save it as a contact, like "Trunk Tools – XYZ Project," and text it your questions. You can also add Trunk Tools to your phone's home screen. See Using Trunk Tools on Mobile.
Set Up Your Suggestions
On your project home screen, click Customize next to What can I ask? and choose Superintendent as your role. Focus areas like Daily reports, Inspections, and Safety & compliance work well. See Using the Prompt Library in TrunkText.
Where Trunk Tools Helps Most
Daily Logs
How many journeymen did the plumber have on Monday?
Did we note any delays in the daily logs in July?
Was ice noted on the daily report for January 2?
Field Questions
Confirm the ceiling height in room 204.
What is the tolerance for smoothness on the elevated slabs?
Is there a plumbing detail showing how a clevis hanger is installed with insulation?
Inspections and Schedule
List all upcoming inspections for the structural steel installation.
When do we need a manufacturer's rep to review the roof installation?
When were the fire sprinkler shop drawings approved?
Safety and Site Logistics
Has ABC Carpentry submitted their hazard analysis for the lobby ceiling?
Summarize emergency response procedures for severe weather.
Show me the logistics plan.
Ask About a Photo
Attach a photo from the field and ask about it, like whether an install matches the detail. Attachments stay in that conversation. See Attaching Files to a Chat in TrunkText.
Tips for Superintendents
Name the location. Include the level, area, room, or gridline.
Check the source on safety calls. Open the cited document before acting on a safety or means-and-methods answer.
Missing a document? If daily logs or another folder aren't showing up, let your Project Manager know.
