Book Creator allows users to search for over 2 million built-in high quality and copyright free images right inside the app using Pixabay and Google safe search. Users can also upload images from their computers, or even use the Adobe App to create their own images using text! Once an image is added to a page, there are many ways a user can then edit it!

Resize and Rotate

Select the image to make it active. You'll see a blue border appear, with blue dots in each corner and a green dot at the top.

To resize an image, drag the blue dots to increase or decrease the size. If using a touchscreen, simply drag the dots with one finger. Notice how the image height and width (in pixels) displays in the top left corner.

Note: Users are unable to use a pinch and zoom motion to resize images

To rotate, click on the green dot and notice how the mouse icon changes to an arrow. While holding down the mouse, move it left and right to rotate the image. On a touchscreen, use two fingers to rotate the image. Notice how the angle of rotation displays in the top left corner.

Image options

A number of image options appear in the Inspector (i) or using right-click when an image is selected and active on the page.

Add an image attribution

At the top of the Inspector options, users can click on the blue 'Add attribution to page' link and the image attribution will appear in a text box underneath the image. The text and font within the attribution box is editable by double-clicking on the text box. The link to the original source image will become active when the book is in Read mode. Check out this article to learn more about copyright and attribution.

Add a link to an image

Found in Inspector options, using the box underneath Hyperlink, users can add text by copying and pasting the URL (web address) to a resource or by typing in a page number to link to a specific page in the book. Anything typed in the hyperlink box will save automatically. Double-click on the image to go to the linked page or website. Check out this article to learn more about using a hyperlink.

Note: Links aren't active until you switch to Read Mode or publish the book online.

Add alt text to an image

Likewise, users can follow the same procedure to add alt text to an image. This is a description of the image that is used by screen readers to help visually impaired users read the book. Simply add the alt text where it says Image Description.

With our alt text generator, users can let AI write the image description for them. Click on the 'generate alt text' icon within the image description to automatically create alt text. The description can be edited and amended to meet your needs.

Add Transparency to an image

Inside the Inspector options, users can adjust the transparency of an image or visual element by using the slider. This allows users to layer and create more visual designs for their books.

Layer an image front or back

Using the Inspector or right-click, users can reorder which layer the image exists on to the front or to the back. For example, if the image will be used for a background, move it Back so everything else you add to the page will appear in front of the image.

Lock and Unlock an image

Select the Lock button to lock an image onto a page so that it is unable to be moved accidentally or purposely by someone editing the page. This is especially useful for template books. Read this article to find out how to permanently lock items. Once an image is locked, it can be Unlocked by selecting the Unlock button in the Inspector or using right-click.

Crop an image

Cropping an image is easy in Book Creator. Select the image and using the Inspector or right-click select the Crop image button. Use the white bars to adjust the image outline, or choose a book shape to crop the image to fill the entire page.

Remove the image background

To layer several images, or add design elements to a book, users may want to remove the background from an image. This can be done by selecting the Remove background button inside the Inspector or by using the right-click options.

This is a premium feature, but users on the free plan can try the background remover feature 10 times. If you want to revert back to the original version of the image, use the undo button in the top left toolbar.

Use the pen tool on an image

Open the pen tool by clicking on the pencil icon in the top right of an image. You can use the pen tool to erase parts of the image, change the background color, or add your own drawings and annotations.
