What is a Curator

This article outlines what it means to be a Curator, what you are responsible for, and what happens if you need to step down.

A Curator on Buenro is the user who starts a group booking and takes the lead in organising it. They manage the process and take responsibility for confirming the booking.

Core Definition

A Curator is a type of Guest who starts a booking and becomes the primary point of contact for the group. They:

  • Choose the property and trip dates

  • Claim rooms on behalf of the group

  • Invite others to join and pay

  • Accept the platform’s and property’s terms

  • Agree to take full contractual and financial responsibility for the booking

You do not need to host or own the property — that is handled by Property Managers. But you are the one coordinating the booking from the user side.

Legal Role

When you curate a booking:

  • You become the contractual counterparty to the Property Manager

  • You are responsible for making sure all payments are completed on time

  • You are accountable for any issues during the stay, including damages or disputes

  • Your name and profile may be shared with the Property Manager and other Guests for coordination

Platform Responsibilities

As a Curator, you must:

  • Coordinate the booking process and confirm guest participation

  • Communicate clearly in the group chat

  • Uphold Buenro’s House Rules and Terms of Service

  • Prevent unregistered or uninvited guests from joining the stay

  • Report issues (e.g. damages or safety concerns) as needed

  • Ensure guests are aware of and comply with check-in/out times, rules, and payment deadlines

Can I Stop Being a Curator?

Yes — but only before the booking is confirmed.

If you step down:

  • The booking is cancelled automatically — we don't support replacing the Curator yet (Feature Coming Soon)

  • All payment holds are released

  • Other members can restart the booking if the dates and property are still available

After confirmation, you're still responsible unless you cancel the booking entirely (subject to the property’s cancellation policy).

Why the Curator Role Matters

The Curator ensures the group booking process is:

  • Organised

  • Transparent

  • Accountable

This is especially important because Buenro is a shared experience platform — there is no “host” in your group. You are self-organising the stay, and the platform provides tools to facilitate it.
