When will I be charged?

This article explains exactly when your card is charged, how authorisations work, and what happens if plans change.

Buenro uses a two-step payment process to ensure fairness and flexibility in group bookings. You won’t be charged until your group is ready to go — this protects you from early or failed payments.

1. How It Works: Authorisation vs. Capture

Authorisation = A temporary hold placed on your card when you join a group (no charge yet). Verify your card has enough funds

Capture = The moment your card is officially charged — this only happens when the group is full and the booking is confirmed

2. Timeline Example

  1. You join a group on Monday → your card is authorised

  2. The group completes on Thursday → your card is charged (captured)

  3. You receive a confirmation of the reservation

If the group doesn’t complete in 7 days, the amount held is unfrozen.

3. Can I Be Charged Before Group Completion?

Only if you are the final member needed to complete the group:

  • Your card is captured/charged immediately

  • Everyone else’s payment is also processed at the same time

You’ll always be shown the exact amount before any charge.

4. What If the Payment Fails at Capture?

If your payment fails:

  • You’ll get an in-app notification

  • You can retry with a new card

  • If it’s not fixed quickly, your spot may be released so someone else can join

5. Does It Matter If I Leave Before the Group Completes?

If you leave:

  • Your authorisation is voided (no money taken)

  • You can join another group or rejoin later if there's space
