Birthdays Bonus

Written by Ateeb

Overview:
Reward your customers on their special day with bonus loyalty points, a discount coupon, or a points multiplier. The "Birthday" earning action has two parts: a one-time reward for first saving their birthday, and a recurring reward every year on the date itself.

Configuring the Birthday Reward

  1. Navigate to CASA Loyalty in your Shopify Dashboard

    • Open the CASA Loyalty app from your Shopify admin.

    • Select Program from the menu.

  2. Access Points Setup

    • In the Program section, click Setup to view and manage ways to earn points.

  3. Add a Way to Earn Points

    • Click Add Ways to Earn and select Birthday from the list of available earning actions.

First Birthday Entry (One-Time Reward)

Toggle "Award points when the customer first saves this date" to give a one-time reward the first time a customer enters their birthday — separate from the recurring yearly reward. Turn this off if you only want to award points on the birthday itself.

  • Points awarded on first birthday entry — the number of points a customer receives the first time they save their birthday. Example: 100 Points.

Birthday Reward Mode (Recurring Yearly Reward)

Choose how customers are rewarded each year on their birthday:

1. Flat Points Bonus

Award a flat number of points on the customer's birthday each year.

  • Points awarded each year on the date — leave blank to match the first-entry points, or set a different value.

2. Discount Coupon Reward

Generate a Shopify discount code on the customer's birthday instead of points.

  • Discount type — Fixed amount off or Percentage off.

  • Discount value — the dollar amount or percentage.

  • Applies to — Entire order or a Specific collection.

  • Reward Expiry — optionally expire the issued reward after 6 months (recommended) or 1 year.

  • Discount code prefix — optionally add a prefix to generated codes. Avoid spaces and special characters to prevent copy-paste errors (example code: c7ffab13).

  • Discount combination — control whether the birthday discount can be combined with other discounts: Order discount (applies to both fixed amount and percentage off), Shipping discount, Product discount.

3. Points Multiplier

Multiply the points a customer earns for a set time window starting on their birthday, instead of a flat bonus or coupon.

  • Multiplier Factor — e.g. 2 for 2x points, 3 for 3x points.

  • Window Duration and Duration Unit — Hours, Days, or Weeks. Sets how long the multiplier stays active starting on the birthday.

  • Apply Multiplier To — Orders Only (points from placing orders) or All Ways to Earn (all points earned during the window, including social actions, reviews, etc.).

Required Advance Notice

Set how many days before their birthday a customer must add the date for the reward to trigger that year. If they add it with fewer days of notice than this setting, the yearly reward starts the following year instead. Set to 0 to allow the date to be added at any time.

Date Format

Choose the format customers use to enter their birthday in the widget and landing page. Supported formats: DD/MM/YY, MM/DD/YY, DD/MM/YYYY, MM/DD/YYYY, YYYY/MM/DD, DD-MM-YYYY, MM-DD-YYYY, YYYY-MM-DD.

Birthday Update Eligibility

Set an Eligibility period to control how often a customer can change their saved birthday — from "Never (set once)" up to 30 days. This prevents customers from repeatedly changing their birthday to farm the reward. Once set, customers can't update their birthday again until this many days have passed since their last update.

Status & Icon

  • Status — Active or Disable.

  • Icon — use the default birthday icon or upload your own to match your branding.

Content Customization

Text editing for the Birthday action's title and subtitle has moved to the Translations page, where you can manage all widget and landing page text in one place (separately for Widget and Landing Page contexts).

How It Works for Customers

  1. Adding Their Birthday:
Customers provide their birthdate through the widget or landing page, in the date format you've configured. Once saved, they receive the first-entry points (if enabled).

  2. Earning the Yearly Reward:
On their birthday, the system automatically applies whichever reward mode you've configured — flat points, a discount coupon, or a points multiplier window — as long as they met the required advance notice.

Privacy Consideration

Depending on the date format you choose, customers may only need to provide day and month, or the full date including year. Choose a format that fits your store's privacy preferences.
