Customizing Card Fees for Storage Jobs

This guide explains how to set default card fee behavior for storage jobs and adjust it on a per-customer basis.

Why This Matters

Some moving companies want to charge card fees (convenience fees) on move jobs but waive them on storage jobs. Chariot lets you set this default behavior while retaining flexibility for special circumstances.

Configure Default Settings

  1. Go to Settings β†’ General β†’ Payment and Billing Settings

  2. Locate these two settings:

    • (Optional) Allow users to waive card fees on a per job basis β€” enables per-job control if you don't waive or apply fees 100% of the time

    • Waive card fees on storage jobs by default β€” automatically waives fees on all storage jobs by default

Turn both settings on to waive fees by default while keeping the ability to override.

Adjust Card Fees for Individual Customers

With the settings above enabled, each storage customer record displays a Card Fees dropdown in the top right.

  • To apply fees on a specific job: Change the dropdown from "Waive" to "Apply" and save

  • To waive fees on a specific job: Change the dropdown from "Apply" to "Waive" and save

Alternate Setup: Charge Fees by Default

If you typically charge card fees on storage jobs but want the option to waive them occasionally:

  1. Leave Waive card fees on storage jobs by default unchecked

  2. The default will be set to "Apply"

  3. Use the dropdown on individual customer records to waive fees as needed

Summary

  • Set company-wide defaults under Payment and Billing Settings

  • Override the default on any storage customer using the Card Fees dropdown

  • Works in either direction: waive by default and selectively apply, or apply by default and selectively waive
