Customizing Your Payment Method List

Custom Payment Method List

The Custom Payment Method List lets you control exactly which payment options appear when your team logs a payment on a job. Instead of using Chariot's default list, you can tailor it to match how your company actually collects payment — removing options you don't accept and keeping the ones you do.

Early Access: This feature launched in May 2026 and is currently available in early access. If it hasn't been enabled on your account yet, reach out to Chariot support and ask to have it turned on.

What It Does

When a mover or office staff member logs a payment in Chariot (on the job screen or invoice), Chariot shows a dropdown list of payment method options — things like cash, check, credit card, Venmo, Zelle, and so on. By default, that list is the same for every company.

With the Custom Payment Method List, you decide what appears on that list for your team. This helps reduce errors (no one accidentally logs a payment type you don't accept) and keeps your records clean and consistent.

Where to Find This Setting

To configure your payment method list, go to Settings > General in Chariot, then look for a Payment and Billing Settings section. If you have early access enabled, you'll see an option to manage your custom payment method list there.

If you don't see this option in your settings, contact Chariot support — your account may need early access enabled first.

How to Add a Payment Method

  1. Navigate to Settings > General > Payment and Billing Settings

  2. Find "Payment Methods"

  3. Click Add Payment Method (or the + button).

  4. Type the name of the payment method as you want it to appear to your team (for example: "Cash," "Check," "Zelle," "Credit Card").

  5. Save your changes.

The new option will appear in the payment method dropdown the next time someone logs a payment on a job.

How to Remove a Payment Method

  1. Go to Settings > General > Payment and Billing Settings

  2. Find the payment method you want to remove.

  3. Click the trash icon next to it.

  4. Confirm the removal when prompted.

  5. Save

Removing a payment method only affects what appears going forward — it does not change or delete any historical payment records already logged on jobs.

How to Reorder Payment Methods

You can drag and drop payment methods into your preferred order. The order you set here is the order your team will see them in the dropdown. Put your most commonly used options at the top to save your team time.

Tips for Moving Companies

  • Start with what you actually accept. If you don't take Check or Venmo, don't include them — a shorter, accurate list is less confusing for your crew in the field.

  • Use consistent naming. Decide on your labels before building the list. "Credit Card" vs. "CC" vs. "Card" all mean the same thing but create messy reports. Pick one and stick with it.

  • Include digital wallets if you use them. Zelle, Venmo, and Cash App are common in the moving industry. If your company accepts them, add them so they're logged correctly.

  • Review after your first week. Once your team starts using the updated list, check your payment logs to make sure everything is being categorized the way you expect.
