You can pay your business taxes to the CRA with your credit card through Chexy. It works for payroll remittances, GST/HST and corporate income tax.
How it works: you give the CRA your Chexy PAD details (instead of your own bank details), and the CRA pulls the payment on the date you choose.
There are two parts: Part 1 sets up the payment in Chexy, and Part 2 schedules it in your CRA account. The payment won't go through until both are done.
Part 1 of 2: Set up your payment in Chexy
Step 1: Search for the CRA
From your Chexy home page, type CRA in the search bar and select CRA - Canada Revenue Agency.
Step 2: Choose "Business taxes"
Select Business taxes (corporate taxes, payroll deductions, GST/HST).
Step 3: Enter the amount, how often and the date
Expected amount: what you owe the CRA
Repeat: how often you'll pay (one-time, monthly, etc.)
Payment date: at least 5 business days away. The CRA won't accept anything sooner.
Click Continue.
Tip: Pick a Repeat option the CRA also offers: One-time, Weekly, Biweekly or Monthly.
Step 4: Review and confirm
Check the amount, date and repeat, then click Confirm.
Step 5: Add a nickname (optional) and schedule
Check your card and fees, and give the payment a nickname so you can tell it apart (for example, Corporate Tax Payment - October '26). Click Schedule payment.
First payment with Chexy? You'll verify your business and add your card before this screen.
Step 6: Copy your Chexy PAD details
On the confirmation screen, under Update your account details, copy your Account, Transit and Institution numbers (or click Download your void cheque). You'll need these in Part 2.
Part 2 of 2: Schedule the payment in your CRA account
There are two ways to do this. For GST/HST or corporate income tax, use Option 2. For payroll, either option works.
In both options, the CRA payment date must match your Chexy payment date (or be after it).
Part 2, Option 1: From the Overview page (payroll only)
Step 1: Go to Manage pre-authorized debit
Log in to CRA My Business Account. On the Overview page, under Business balance and services, click Manage pre-authorized debit.
Step 2: Click "Schedule payment(s)"
Step 3: Click "Start"
Step 4: Enter your payment details
Program account: pick your payroll account (RP)
Payment allocation: what the payment is for (for example, regular remittance)
Amount, how often and number of payments: match what you set up in Chexy
First payment date: at least 5 business days away
Paying GST/HST or corporate income tax? Skip to Option 2.
Step 5: Enter your Chexy banking info
Under Banking information, select Enter new banking information and enter the branch (transit), institution and account numbers from your Chexy PAD details. Click Next.
Tip: Only choose Use existing banking information if the details shown are already your Chexy PAD details.
Step 6: Review and submit
Check everything looks right, tick the authorization box and click Submit. That's it!
Part 2, Option 2: From the left-hand menu
Use this option for GST/HST and corporate income tax. It takes a few more clicks. (Our example uses GST/HST. The steps are the same for corporate income tax.)
Step 1: Pick your tax from the left-hand menu
In the left-hand menu, click the tax you're paying (for example, GST/HST), then click its account (for example, RT0001). Then click View and pay account balance.
Step 2: Enter the period and amount
Under Payment on filing and Interim balance, choose the period-end you're paying for and enter the amount. Click Proceed to pay.
Step 3: Click "Start"
Step 4: Choose "Schedule one or more payment(s) from your Canadian chequing account"
This is the only option that works with Chexy. Don't choose the Visa Debit / Apple Pay option. Click Next.
Step 5: Set up your schedule
Enter the amount per payment, how often, number of payments and first payment date. These should match what you set up in Chexy.
Step 6: Enter your Chexy banking info
Under Banking information, select Enter new banking information and enter the branch (transit), institution and account numbers from your Chexy PAD details. Click Next.
Step 7: Review and submit
Check everything looks right, tick the authorization box and click Submit. You're all set!
How do I know it worked?
On the CRA Overview page, click Manage pre-authorized debit. Your payment will show under Active agreement(s) with the amount and next payment date.
