Characters are realistic AI presenters, generated by Cuttable to match your brand's audience, that you can use in UGC-style videos inside Shoots. A Character can be a Person or an Animal.
About Characters
Characters are AI-generated presenters designed to look and sound like the kind of customer your brand sells to, or like an animal that suits your brand. Each Character is either a Person or an Animal, and each Character has a consistent look across every video they appear in, so the same Character can show up in multiple campaigns.
Characters work best for:
UGC-style talking-head videos
Product reviews, unboxings, and "day in the life" formats
Audience-specific creative where the on-screen person matters
Talking-animal presenters for pet, wildlife, or animal-themed brands
Adding Characters to your account
There are two ways to add Characters to your account.
Select "Suggest Characters". Cuttable will suggest Characters based on the audiences in your Brand Strategy, so the cast represents the people your brand is targeting. You can then review and select Characters that resonate with your brand.
Create your own Character. To create a Character from scratch:
Open the Characters area and click Create Character.
Choose whether the Character is a Person or an Animal.
For a Person, optionally select a target audience from your Brand Strategy. For an Animal, enter the species as free text, for example "golden retriever" or "African grey parrot".
Add further context describing the Character, for example "a young American man who loves outdoor adventures and sustainable fashion" for a Person, or "a laid-back golden retriever who is the face of a pet supplement brand" for an Animal.
Click Generate Character.
Shoots will generate a unique identity for your Character. For a Person, this includes gender, age, ethnicity, language, accent, appearance, and a set of scenes they can appear in. For an Animal, this includes appearance and a set of scenes it can appear in. You can edit any Character at any point, and Characters created before Animal Characters launched are unaffected, continuing to work as Person Characters.
Using a Character in a Shoots prompt
To put a Character in a Shoots video, reference them through the + menu or @ them in the prompt box. Continue with a normal video prompt describing what they do, say, or wear. This works the same way whether the Character is a Person or an Animal.
Example: "Create a UGC-style video of @Mia talking about how this product fits into her morning routine, casual handheld feel, daylight in a kitchen."
Example with an Animal Character: "Create a UGC-style video of @Buddy the golden retriever sitting next to the product on a kitchen counter, casual handheld feel, daylight."
For broader prompting guidance, see Shoots - Your New AI Photography Studio.
Writing dialogue for your Character
To have a Character say specific words rather than talk about a general topic, write the line in quotation marks in your prompt.
Example: "Create a UGC-style video of @Mia in her kitchen. She says: 'I never thought a supplement could actually fit into my morning routine, but this one does.'"
For a video with more than one Character, write each Character's line separately and label who is speaking.
Example: "Create a UGC-style video with @Mia and @Jordan in a kitchen. @Mia says: 'This is the easiest swap I've made all year.' @Jordan says: 'Same, and it actually tastes good.'"
⭐ Important: Shoots generates the closest match it can to a quoted script, but it is not a word-for-word lip-sync tool. Short, simple lines in everyday language match most closely. Long or complex sentences are more likely to be paraphrased or only partially matched.
FAQs
Where do I find my Characters?
Characters appear under Assets in the left-hand navigation panel. Open a new or existing Shoots conversation, type @, and you will see your available Characters alongside products, audiences, and value claims.
Can a Character be an animal?
Yes, when you create a Character you can choose Animal instead of Person and describe the species in free text, for example "corgi" or "cockatoo". Cuttable generates an animal presenter that keeps a consistent look across your videos, in the same way as a Person Character.
Can I use the same Character across multiple videos?
Yes. Each Character has a consistent look across videos, so you can reuse the same Character across different prompts and campaigns and it will appear the same way each time.
Can I give a Character a specific script instead of a general topic?
Yes, quote the exact line you want the Character to say in your prompt instead of describing the topic in general terms. See Writing dialogue for your Character above.
