How to create and test a voice clone in Cuttable

Voice cloning is available on every Cuttable account.

What voice cloning is

Voice cloning creates a synthetic copy of a voice from a recording you make in Cuttable or an audio or video file you upload, so you can type text and hear it spoken in that voice. You can use a cloned voice for voiceovers in Recut videos and to give a character a voice in Shoots videos. A cloned voice cannot be added to a regular ad in the editor.

Before you start: consent

Cloning a voice creates speech that sounds like a real person, so you must tick a box confirming you have the rights or consent to clone the samples and will not use the output for any illegal, fraudulent, or harmful purpose. Only clone your own voice or someone who has given you permission. Your samples are private to your account, and you can delete a clone and its samples at any time.

How to clone a voice

To clone a voice, open the Clone a voice wizard from the Voices page and complete these steps:

  1. Select Voices in the sidebar.

  2. Select Clone a voice.

  3. Tick the consent box and select Continue.

  4. Enter a name for the clone and an optional description.

  5. Choose Record audio or Upload a sample, then provide your sample:

    • Record audio: allow microphone access, pick your microphone, and read one of the on-screen scripts aloud.

    • Upload a sample: drag in an audio or video file up to 100 MB. Cuttable extracts the audio from a video for you.

  6. Provide at least 30 seconds of clear audio. One minute or more produces a better result.

  7. Select Generate preview. Processing takes up to a few minutes, and you can close the window while Cuttable notifies you when it is ready.

  8. On the review screen, type text and play it back to hear the cloned voice.

  9. If you are happy, select Save voice to store it against your brand.

How to use a cloned voice in Recut

To add a voiceover in your cloned voice to a Recut video, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Make Ads and select Recut your videos.

  2. Add the videos you want to add a voiceover to.

  3. Select the + button and select your cloned voice.

  4. Give Cuttable a script for the voiceover, or leave the script out and Cuttable writes one based on your videos and your Brand Strategy.

To use a cloned voice in Shoots, go to Characters, select a character, select Voice, and pick the cloned voice from your library. See Using Voices in Cuttable for more detail.

Tips for a good voice clone

A clean sample produces a noticeably better voice clone. Use clear speech with minimal background noise, include only the voice you are cloning with no one talking over the top, and provide at least 30 seconds of audio.

Getting help

To report a bug or share feedback on voice cloning, start a chat with the Cuttable team using the chat icon in the bottom right of the app. Messages go directly to the product team. Feedback on clone quality is especially useful as we continue to improve voice cloning.
