How captions work in Cuttable, and how to enable and style them in the editor for any video with speech.
How captions work
Cuttable automatically detects speech in your videos and makes captions available when a voiceover or on-camera dialogue is present. Captions are displayed as on-screen text synchronized to the audio and are embedded directly into the exported video.
For videos generated through Recut, captions are applied automatically when speech is detected. For all other video ads, including uploaded videos, captions need to be enabled manually in the editor sidebar.
How to enable captions
To add captions to a video ad:
Open the ad in the Cuttable editor.
In the right-hand sidebar, locate the Captions section.
Toggle captions on.
Cuttable will generate captions from the detected speech and apply them to the video.
Styling your captions
You can style your captions directly in the Cuttable editor so they match your brand. Caption styling uses the caption toolbar, the same toolbar you use to style text layers.
To style your captions:
Open the ad in the Cuttable editor and make sure captions are enabled.
Select the caption text on the canvas. The caption toolbar appears.
Use the toolbar to adjust the caption's styling.
You can adjust:
Font and size
Bold and italic
Alignment
Color, background fill, and outline
Your changes preview live on the caption and are saved to the ad you are editing.
Important: Caption styling applies only to the ad you are editing. Your original assets and other ads are not affected.
When captions are not available
If Cuttable does not detect speech in the video, the Captions section in the sidebar will display a message indicating that captions are unavailable. This applies to videos that contain only music, sound effects, or no audio at all. Captions require a voiceover or on-camera dialogue to be present.
