Setting up your workspace

The workspace settings every Owner or Admin should review after signup, including branding, notification defaults, and data residency.

Your workspace holds the settings for branding, defaults, and how new teams and projects behave. This article walks through the settings every Owner or Admin should review right after signing up, before inviting the rest of the team.

Workspace settings

Open Settings → Workspace to review the following:

Setting

What it controls

Workspace name

Shown in the sidebar, browser tab, and invite emails

Workspace URL

The subdomain teammates use to sign in

Logo

Displayed in the sidebar and on shared timeline links

Default project view

The view (Board, List, Timeline, or Calendar) new projects open to

Time zone

Used for due dates, timesheets, and reminder emails

Guest access

Whether Guests can be invited to projects at all

Data residency

EU, UK, or US storage location (Enterprise only)

Branding

Pro and Enterprise workspaces can set a custom logo and accent color, which appears across the web app and in timeline links shared with clients. This is a good place to check before you invite external guests, since branding is one of the first things they see.

Notification defaults

Set the default notification channel - email, in-app, or both - for new teammates. Individuals can override this from their own notification settings after they join, so treat this as a sensible default rather than a permanent rule.

Teams and projects defaults

Decide whether new projects are private to the team that creates them or visible workspace-wide by default. Smaller workspaces often leave this open; larger ones with client-services teams usually restrict it so client work stays scoped to the right team.

Security settings

Enterprise workspaces can also configure SAML single sign-on and review audit logs from workspace settings. If your company requires SSO, set this up before you invite a large batch of teammates, so everyone signs in through your identity provider from their very first login - see SAML single sign-on for the full setup steps.

Reviewing changes later

Most workspace settings can be changed at any time without disrupting existing projects. The exceptions are workspace URL and data residency: changing either affects how teammates sign in or where data is stored, so plan those changes outside of business hours if your team is large.

Note: Only Owners and Admins can change workspace settings. Members and Guests can update their own personal notification preferences only.

Next steps

Once your workspace is configured, invite the rest of your team - see Inviting teammates - and review Roles and permissions explained so you assign the right access to each person.
