You choose the work. Every shift, every time.
There's no set schedule and no minimum hours. You browse shifts near you in the app, book the ones that suit you, and work as much or as little as you like. Nobody minds if you don't book for a month.
You see everything before you commit.
The date, the start and finish times, the break, the care home, how far away it is, and the rate. All of it, before you tap apply. You're never agreeing to a shift and finding out the details afterwards.
You're paid weekly, every Tuesday.
Once the care home approves your timesheet, that shift goes into the next Tuesday's pay period, and the money is sent to your bank. No cash, no cheques, no waiting a month.
You can work anywhere we operate.
You're not tied to one building. Work at one care home every week if you like it, or try several. Find somewhere you like and mark it as a favourite, and their shifts can come to you first.
Everyone around you has been checked too.
Every Florence worker has had their registration verified, a Vulnerable Sector Check, TB test, training certificates, two references and a video interview with our team before they can book a single shift. It's why onboarding takes a little time. It's also why you can walk onto a unit knowing the person next to you went through exactly the same thing.
You can have two jobs.
Plenty of people use Florence to top up their full-time jobs, fill gaps around another agency, or keep their hand in while studying. We don't ask for exclusivity.
Now the honest part.
You're an independent contractor, not an employee. That's the trade for the flexibility, and it cuts both ways.
Nothing is deducted from your pay. You're responsible for your own income tax, and if you don't set anything aside during the year, you may have a bill at the end of it. If you've only ever been an employee, that's the bit that catches people off guard — so we'd rather say it now than have you find out in April.
There are no guaranteed hours. You choose your shifts, which also means nobody is guaranteeing you any. Shifts vary by area. We currently operate in Ontario, and some areas have more work than others, particularly for nights and weekends.
If that sounds like it fits
Have a look at "How do I register?" to see what you'll need.
Onboarding takes a little time because of the checks, so the sooner you start the sooner you can book.
