RCS and SMS: Opt in/out management

Updated this week

SMS and RCS consents are linked: a contact who is opted in for RCS is automatically opted in for SMS, and the same applies for unsubscribing.

A contact can unsubscribe in two ways

  1. By replying "STOP" in the conversation : automatically processed by the carriers.

  2. By expressing their wish in natural language (e.g. "I no longer want to receive messages"). An AI feature built into WAX detects the intent and unsubscribes them automatically. This option can be enabled in your WAX settings.

In both cases, the opt-in status of your contacts is displayed directly on their contact profile, accessible from the inbox or the Audience tab.

Managing your contacts' opt-in status

Several methods are available to manage SMS and RCS consents in WAX:

  • CSV import: manually import your opted-in contacts via a CSV file.

  • SFTP: automatically sync your contacts on a regular basis in batches.

  • "Opt-in" node in your flows: add the dedicated node in your automations or campaigns to dynamically set a contact's opt-in or opt-out status for the RCS/SMS channel, triggered by a specific action.
