Navigating a case

The Case Home dashboard is the central hub for each case, providing access to all case data, tools, and settings.

Updated over a week ago

This article explains how to navigate the Case Home dashboard in Hearsay. From here, you can access every part of a case, including uploaded data sources, extraction codes, exports, team members, and Hot Data. You can also search across all uploaded data, filter by tags or date, and use quick actions to create new codes or exports.

How to get to the Case Home Dashboard

Step 1: Log in

Go to usehearsay.com/login and log in to your account.

Step 2: Open your case

From your My Cases page, click the case name you want to view.

You’ll be redirected to the Case Home Dashboard, the main workspace for managing all case data, searches, and exports.

Understanding Case Home Tabs and Functions

From Case Home, you can access other key areas of the case:

Recent Uploads

The Recent Uploads section shows the most recently added data sources for the case. Each upload includes the device name, upload date, and extraction code for reference.

Click the Data Source Name in listed in Recent Uploads to review the uploaded data.

Case Search

At the top of Case Home, you can search across all data in the case. The search bar supports both Basic and Advanced Search options, helping you quickly locate messages, media, or tagged items.

When reviewing a specific data source (for example, through Recent Uploads or Case Data), searches are limited to that source.

For cases with multiple devices or data types (ex. mobile phone(s), social media, and email), the Case Search tool returns results across all uploaded data in the case.

Use Case Search to quickly locate key messages, media, or tagged content without needing to open each data source individually.

For more details on how to search across multiple devices and data sources, see Using Case Search.

Hot Data

The Hot Data tab in Case Home highlights conversations or data sources marked as important during review.

When a conversation is marked as Hot Data, it appears here for quick access, allowing you to open that thread directly from the Case Home dashboard.

Hot Data helps teams quickly locate key conversations, exhibits, or message threads that may require further review or production.

For more details: See How to Add Hot Data to learn how to mark or unmark a conversation as Hot Data.
