Why might I see charges after canceling a Shopify app subscription?

Understand why a charge can appear on your Shopify invoice after you've already cancelled your Atlas subscription.

If you cancel your Atlas subscription and still see a charge on your Shopify invoice, it usually means Shopify is billing you for usage that occurred before the cancellation took effect. This is normal and does not mean your subscription is still active.

In this article:

How Shopify app billing works

Shopify bills app subscriptions on a cycle. You use the app during the cycle, then Shopify adds the charge to your next invoice. Because of this timing, a charge can appear after you cancel if it covers a period when the subscription was still active.

Why you might see a charge after cancellation

There are a few common reasons a charge can show up after you've already cancelled.

End-of-cycle billing. If you cancel during a billing cycle, Shopify can still invoice you for the time the subscription was active earlier in that cycle.

Prorated charges. Depending on the app's pricing setup and Shopify's billing rules, some charges may be prorated. This means you might see a partial charge that covers only the portion of time you had access.

Trial timing. If your free trial ends and the cancellation happens after the trial cutoff, Shopify may generate the first paid charge. This can happen when the cancellation is made very close to the trial end, sometimes affected by time zone differences.

Usage-based charges. Atlas uses usage-based pricing on top of the $39 base plan. If your store exceeded the base tier limits for published pages, AI photos, bundler revenue, or cart orders during the billing cycle before you cancelled, those additional tier charges will still appear on your final invoice. These charges reflect usage that occurred while your subscription was active and are not an error. For a full breakdown of usage tiers, see [Atlas usage rates and tiers].

After cancellation, you should not be billed for any new future cycles.

ℹ️ Uninstalling the Atlas app automatically cancels your subscription. You can still see a final invoice charge for the period the subscription was active.

Where to check what the charge is for

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Billing.

  2. Open the invoice that includes the app charge.

  3. Click the app line item to view details like the service period the charge covers, the plan name and amount, and any prorated amount Shopify may have applied.

What to do if something looks wrong

If the invoice service period shows dates after your cancellation, compare the following:

  • The cancellation or uninstall date and time

  • The trial end date and time, if applicable

  • The service period shown on the invoice

If the dates don't line up or you believe you were charged incorrectly, reach out to the Atlas support team through live chat by typing "Talk to agent" in the chat window, or by emailing support@helloatlas.io.
