Why might I see charges after canceling a Shopify app subscription?

If you cancel a Shopify app subscription and still see a charge, it usually means Shopify is billing you for usage that happened before the cancellation took effect. This is normal in most cases and does not mean your subscription is still active.

How Shopify app billing works
Shopify bills most app subscriptions on a cycle. You use the app during the cycle, then Shopify adds the app charge to your next Shopify invoice. Because of this timing, a charge can appear after you cancel if it covers a period when the subscription was still active.

Where to check what the charge is for

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings, then Billing.

  2. Open the invoice that includes the app charge.

  3. Click the app line item to view details like:

  • The service period the charge covers

  • The plan name and amount

  • Any prorated amount, if Shopify applied one

Why you might see a charge after cancellation

  1. End of cycle billing
If you cancel during a billing cycle, Shopify can still invoice you for the time the subscription was active earlier in that cycle.

  2. Prorated charges
Some app charges can be prorated depending on the app’s pricing setup and Shopify’s billing rules. This means you might see a partial charge that matches the portion of time you had access.

  3. Trial timing
If your trial ends and the cancellation happens after the trial cutoff, Shopify may generate the first paid charge. This can happen when the cancellation is made very close to the trial end, sometimes affected by time zone differences. After cancellation, you should not be billed for any new future cycles.

Important note about uninstalling
Uninstalling an app cancels its subscription. If you uninstalled the app, the subscription should be canceled automatically, but you can still see a final invoice charge for the prior active period.

What to do if something looks wrong
If the invoice service period shows dates after your cancellation, compare:

  • The cancellation or uninstall date and time

  • The trial end date and time, if applicable

  • The service period shown on the invoice
