Production Release 2.7.9

March 2026

Written by Ken Panitz
Updated over 2 weeks ago

Release 2.7.9 delivers major improvements to task linking, timeline performance and visualization. This update makes it easier to represent staged construction, work with complex schedules, and visualize large point cloud datasets.

⚠️ Important: One‑Time Project Upgrade

This release introduces an updated project data model to support WBS node linking capabilities.

What you need to know:

  • Projects will need to be upgraded when opened in 2.7.9.

  • Once upgraded, projects cannot be opened in earlier versions of ToBe Builder.

  • If an upgraded project is opened in an older version, a warning message will appear.

Task Timeline Updates & support for Parent Task (WBS) node linking.

Production Release 2.7.9 includes updates to the task timeline, and removes some existing constraints around BIM linking.

Multi Task & Parent (WBS) node linking

Previous versions of ToBe Builder before 2.6.2 prohibited the user from linking BIM element geometry to more than 1 task. This simplified the workflow and avoided visualisation conflicts, but it introduced overheads if users wanted to show multiple stages of work appearing sequentially for a given element. Such as Reo, Form and Pour stages of typical concrete construction.

The previous release of ToBe Builder (2.6.2) introduced allowing users to link multiple tasks to any item of geometry within the system. This would allow for example a user to link a single wall element to a task for reinforcement, formwork and pour stages of concrete construction without having to duplicate geometry as was required in the past.

ToBe Builder now allows linking to Parent (WBS) Tasks

This release of ToBe Builder (2.7.7) now also expands on this change to allow users to link geometry and objects (zones, paths, annotations, etc) to parent (WBS) tasks. Previously users were unable to link to these tasks, as they were un-selectable, and therefore could not be used in any of the workflows available to real leaf level tasks (those in P6 with an activity ID).

Changes to WBS, Gantt and Cake Timeline Views

Firstly, we have merged the existing Gantt and WBS views, into a single combined view now called 'Gantt' This can be filtered to behave in the same manner as either of the previous views via the leaf tri-state toggle explained below.

The default “Wedding Cake” view remains unchanged compresses the tasks from the traditional Gantt view to save space. The Task you are working on is shown on the bottom bar and highlighted in green. Tasks in progress at the date-picked time are shown on the left panel. This view now also includes parent tasks if geometry has or other object have been linked to them.

Gantt View: creates a view that include a WBS hierarchy that can be expanded and collapsed to focus on specific sections of work.

Added BIM Links Tristate Toggle.

Programme controls:

  • Sync Tasks Dropdown: This dropdown allows syncing the tasks visible in the Timeline with the Scene Filter and BIM Selection systems This was added in 2.6.2 but continues to support new ways of interacting with the task/BIM data graph in this release.

    • Show All: Turn sync filtering off

    • Scene Filter: When the Scene Filter Mode is currently active in the viewport, filter all tasks in the Task Timeline based on the Scene Filter's current settings.

    • BIM Selection: When BIM(s) and/or BIM Element(s) are selected, filter all tasks in the Task Timeline based on the tasks that are linked to the BIM selection. This works for both whole model, and sub-selection.

  • Resource Tri-State Toggle: show Tasks that contain resources or do not contain resources or all tasks

  • BIM Links Tri-State Toggle: show Tasks that contain BIM linked Geometry or do not contain BIM linked Geometry or all tasks

  • Leaf Tri-State Toggle: show imported Leaf and Created tasks or imported WBS nodes or all tasks

  • PDS Filter Toggle: Filter timeline by PDS or activity codes imported from your schedule or via TSV import.

  • Date Picker Button: Move the date slider to a specific date

ArcGIS Point Cloud Scene Layer Support

ToBe Builder now also supports visualization of large point clouds with publisher‑defined styling, enabling high‑performance rendering of survey‑grade datasets as a Esri ArcGIS Point Cloud Scene Layer Service. This means that ArcGIS Pro can be used to publish a LAS or LAZ file as a online service, or SLPK local file that ToBe Builder can render and support. This allows the rendering of massive LiDAR‑based datasets optimized with hierarchical level‑of‑detail for efficient streaming within ToBe Builder.

In ToBe Builder Point Cloud Scene Layers are:

  • Used for terrain analysis, vegetation mapping, and asset verification

  • Ideal for comparing design intent with as‑built conditions

  • Supports immersive inspection of raw LiDAR captures

Note: Point symbology is controlled at the point of service publication from ArcGIS Pro, the current version of the Esri SDK does not yet support runtime modification of the point symbology.

ToBe Builder supports a large variety of ArcGIS Scene Layer Types.

Inspector Path Mount and Dismount Options

The inspector path panel now included the same mount and dismount options as the mounts panel. This allows users to 'dismount' a resource from a path with a single click.

Mesh Details Panel

The inspector now includes an updated mesh details inspector, that responds to element selection in the scene. This allows you to understand how many triangles and vertex each part or selection of the B IM contains, so you can investigate poor geometry that may be degrading performance.

Generally scenes below 200 million triangles will perform well on a CAD spec PC as specified in our minimum requirements documentation.

Keyframe Improvements

ToBe Builder 2.7.9 made several improvements to the keyframe cut and paste system to speed up copy of sequences between activities. Namely;

  • Allow the users to copy and paste keyframes which contain Path Mounts.

  • Copying and pasting text from any panel cross-talks with copying and pasting Keyframes. ToBe will now ignore keyframe information stored in the clipboard if a text field is currently selected, and will instead allow users to cut and paste the text without interacting with the keyframe system.

  • Cannot delete or re-link keyframes in specific project if keyframes set are returned out of order. This bug resulted in some keyframes becoming un-editable. This has been resolved in this release.

3D Tiles Performance

ToBe Builder now benefits from substantial performance optimizations in how 3D Tiles content is streamed and rendered within Unity. Recent improvements to the ArcGIS Maps SDK have refined the data loading strategy for 3D Tiles, minimizing unnecessary data requests and prioritizing content closest to the camera.

This results in faster load times, lower memory usage, and smoother interaction with large 3D datasets. These enhancements also improve overall perceived performance, allowing complex environments—such as photogrammetric city models or large infrastructure datasets—to display more responsively within ToBe Builder’s real‑time scenes

Known Issue: There are scenarios were the Google Photorealistic Tile service we provide via the "Google 3D Tiles" toggle in the GIS menu can become unresponsive at low elevations, or low oblique angles to the horizon. It may be evident by geometry near the horizon loading first, while the closer geometry is not present.

This is caused by a known bug in the Esri ArcGIS Maps SDK for Unity which will be resolved in a subsequent release (Sep 2026). To resolve should it occur, either wait for the scene to load as all geometry loads across the visible area or simply zoom out to a higher elevation, and the 3D Tiles should begin to reload normally down through the octree/LOD levels.

Minor Usability and UI fixes:

  • Implemented User Pilot for User Feature Use Tracking.

  • Improve BIM loading by ensuring that when a user manually stops loading of a BIM from the BIM hierarchy, ToBe can now abort the process at any step, rather than waiting for the BIM loading to complete before removing it.

  • BIM elements do not appear or disappear as expected unless the time pick is dragged slowly over the task

  • GIS cutting causing drop in FPS when scrubbing timeline

  • Materials copied from Default materials and assigned to BIM elements not persisting after project reload

  • Build can't write logs when installed to C:\Program Files\TobeBuilder

  • Project Users menu doesn't clear when changing tenants

  • Increase size of Tenants menu and Create Tenants menu

  • BIM not loading in project preventing BIM visibility from working correctly

  • Undo resource prefab delete doesn't recreate it properly

  • Selection Inspector optimization When Resource Animation panel is open

  • Timeline performance improvements
