How do I use an Events page to run a livestream?

Updated this week

Using a livestream within your Events page can be a seamless experience for your participants - but there are some steps involved to ensure that everything is set up correctly well in advance of your event.

Below, we've walked through the process of enabling your livestream, going live, and concluding your event, so you're prepared to have just as seamless of an experience running your event as your attendees are while watching your livestream.

Step 1: Make sure that your event has livestreaming enabled

If you are creating a new event, you can follow the steps in this helpful guide and add the livestreaming capabilities during that process.

If you have already built your event and did not select the "Livestream" toggle, but you want to livestream the event, you can edit the Event Settings, from your event's dashboard.

You'll want to select the "Actions" button from the event's overview, then select "Edit Event Settings."

Next, you'll want to scroll down until you see the section titled "Are you using a livestream?" You can then toggle the option so it reflects as "yes," and then click "Save & Exit" at the top of your screen to save your changes.

Step 2: Add a livestream URL to your page through the "Livestream" tab

Depending on whether you are using a YouTube-hosted video or a Vimeo-hosted video, you will have a few steps you'll need to take to physically add the livestreaming URL to your page.

We've created a helpful step-by-step guide for both of those options that you can follow to add that link - the guide for YouTube can be found here, and the guide for Vimeo can be found here.

Step 3: Rehearse your event and livestream

We cannot recommend enough that you rehearse and prepare well in advance of the actual day of the event. We've created a guide on some best practices that will help guide you through that process, as well as resources on how to ensure your video is set up properly, and how to rehearse prior to your event.

Step 4: Go live during your event!

To start the livestream during your event, you'll want to go to the Livestream tab, and select "Live" from the available "Livestream Status" options.

Your event page will automatically save and update to the “Live” status – there’s no need for you or your attendees to refresh the page!

Step 5: After the event has concluded, confirm that both the livestream and event have been "ended"

To end your livestream within your Events page, you can just switch your page status to "Post-Event" under the "Livestream Status" options.

Once you've confirmed your change on the pop-up that appears, your event will "stop" for all attendees and the page will switch to the "Post-Event" status, ending both the livestream and the sale of tickets.
