For some of your upcoming events, you may want to offer the opportunity for some of your participants to enjoy a discount on their ticket purchases.
Your Events pages come with the ability for you to generate "promo codes," which allow event attendees to get discounted (or free!) tickets by entering an alphanumeric code during the checkout process.
Promo codes (also known as “discount codes,” “coupon codes,” or “promotional discounts”) can be used to help adjust the cost of a ticket in the following instances:
Step 1: Using promo codes as part of a promotion for your event
There may be instances when you want to offer an "early bird" or a "flash" sale for tickets to your event - meaning a limited time in which a ticket can be offered for a different or lower price. Instead of creating an entirely different ticket type with a limited duration for that purpose, you can just set up a promo code with a limited duration that attendees can apply to the ticket.
Step 2: Using promo codes to offer discounts for special groups
Promo codes can also be used to offer discounts for special groups, such as a "student" ticket or "member price." This helps offer certain perks to specific groups or individuals without having to offer a specific ticket type that you'd have to monitor and make sure that only those individuals select that option.
Step 3: Using promo codes to offer and track complimentary, or "courtesy" tickets
Promo codes can be especially useful if you're looking to offer complimentary tickets to certain individuals, like those who purchase sponsorships, or other VIPs to your event. Using a promo code helps you register those guests without having to collect payment and helps keep both your financial records and attendance records accurate.
As a reminder, promo codes can only be applied to ticket types, and NOT sponsorship levels or donations.
