Attendees can appear anonymous because each person chooses whether to be visible in the attendee list. By default, an attendee’s full identity is not shown until they opt to be visible, so anyone who has not made their profile public is displayed as anonymous. You can still send an anonymous attendee a connection request, and if they accept, their identity becomes visible to you within that conversation. This gives every attendee control over their own privacy.
