You can change a subscription’s unit type or price at any time from the Backoffice. You can also choose whether the change applies immediately, from the next renewal, or from a date in the past.
How to change a subscription’s unit type or price
Go to the customer’s Subscription in the Backoffice.
Click Edit unit types.
Select the new Unit type and/or use the Add Customer Price button.
Choose when the change should start: Immediately, On next renewal, or Backdated.
Review the preview of the changes.
Click Confirm to apply the update.
When should the change start?
When you update the unit type or price, Stora asks when the change should begin.
Immediately: The new price applies from today.
On next renewal: The new price applies from the customer’s next renewal date.
Backdated: The new price applies from a date in the past.
💡 Choose On next renewal if you have given customers notice of a future price increase and only want it to start from their next billing period.
What happens when you change the price immediately?
If you choose Immediately, Stora creates a pro‑rata invoice so the customer pays the correct amount for the rest of the current billing period.
If the new unit is larger and more expensive, the customer will usually have an invoice to pay right away.
If the new unit is smaller and less expensive, the customer will usually receive credit on their account.
⚠️ If you select Immediately, a pro‑rata invoice is generated. Make sure you are happy with the new price before you confirm the change.
Update unit allocations after changing unit type
Changing the unit type on a subscription does not automatically move the customer to a new physical unit.
If the customer is moving to a different unit in your facility, update their unit allocation after you change the subscription:
