Summer School Set Up (for .CSV Partners)

Need to remove a school from your TalkingPoints setup for summer? This guide walks you through two options on how to do so!

Updated yesterday

Audience: School Admins

Rostering Type: .CSV upload

Option 1: Add a New Summer School Class

You can add a Summer School class without removing your current school year data.

To do this:

  1. Follow the steps in the Refreshing Your Data section of the Self-Serve .CSV Uploader Guide.

  2. Add a new Summer School as a separate class in your upload file.

✅ This keeps your current school year data active while layering in your Summer School setup.
⚠️ No need to freeze schools if you're just adding Summer School as a new class.

Option 2: Replace Current Data with Summer School Data

If you're wrapping up the school year and only want Summer School data in TalkingPoints:

  1. (Recommended) Remove staff from any schools you plan to freeze.
→ Use the Bulk Assign + Remove Roles tool in the school or district product.
    How to bulk remove staff

  2. Freeze any schools that won’t be in session this summer.
→ Do this in the Schools module of your school product.

⚠️ Note: Freezing fully removes the school from TalkingPoints. This is not a temporary pause.

  3. Create and upload your Summer School data using standard .CSV upload steps.

✅ Once Summer School is added, staff will be able to message families as usual.

What happens when a school is frozen for .CSV Partners:

  • District Admins: Can still log in but will also see the warning when trying to access the teacher product.
Staff: A hard freeze is enacted for any select schools. All staff accounts linked to the school are locked. They will see a warning screen if they try to log in.

  • Data: All frozen school data is locked and removed.

Important Notes:

  • Staff should download reports and messages before the freeze.

  • Use the Bulk Assign + Remove Roles feature to clean up staff assignments ahead of freezing a school.

  • Because you're adding Summer School-specific data, your staff will be able to message as normal once the new Summer School is added.
