In this article, learn about the Kiosk feature and how it can be accessed and used for quickly and conveniently assigning and unassigning devices to and from your geofencing projects.
What is the Kiosk feature?
The device assignment Kiosk gives any Tended tech user (i.e. track worker or machine controller) the ability to assign their own devices to the Dashboard, without needing a Dashboard account.
By using the Kiosk, assigning and unassigning devices does not need to be the responsibility of the ES or Site Manager. Instead, anyone with access to a Tended device can assign and unassign devices to/from projects on the Dashboard.
When you're ready to assign Tended devices to a project or site, a Dashboard user will need to activate the Kiosk. This will usually be done by an ES with the correct Dashboard permissions.
A nominated worker(s) (usually a CoSS) will then scan the Kiosk QR code with a secondary device, usually a phone or a tablet.
You can also share the Kiosk via URL.
Then, the secondary device (phone or tablet) becomes a Kiosk, where Tended devices can be assigned.
Track workers grab their Tended device, and scan its QR codes at the Kiosk.
Track workers will have the option to assign their Tended device as a Wearable or Asset, and also to give the device a nickname.
How can I use the Kiosk feature on-site?
There are many ways the Kiosk can be used for device management. Here are some ideas to get you started:
Phone Kiosk: Scan the Kiosk QR code* with your phone camera, then take your phone to a different cabin, or worksite access point, and start assigning Tended devices there.
Tablet Kiosk: Scan the Kiosk QR code* with a tablet camera, then set the tablet up on a desk in the site cabin. Track workers can then use this desk (Kiosk station) to assign their Tended devices.
Second screen Kiosk: Copy and paste the Kiosk URL* to a browser on your second screen. The screen can then be turned to face the track workers, so they can assign their devices.
* Each project on the Dashboard will have its own unique Kiosk QR code or Kiosk URL.
π‘ Tended tip: One project can have multiple device management kiosks active at one time. Giving you the option to assign or unassign devices in multiple locations, across your work site.
Who can access and use the Kiosk feature?
Who can activate the Kiosk?
A user with the permission "Manage project devices" can activate the Kiosk from their Dashboard account.
Default user roles that have this permission are:
Super admin
Site manager
π‘ Tended tip: you can create a custom role that includes the permission "Manage projects devices" for any Dashboard user you want to be able to activate the Kiosk.
Who can use the Kiosk feature?
The Kiosk has been developed so that anyone can use the feature by creating a device assignment, or unassignment, Kiosk on an additional device i.e. phone, laptop or tablet.
How to activate the Kiosk
The ES, Site manager or equivalent will usually activate the Kiosk.
Please note: Only Dashboard users with specific permissions can activate a project's Kiosk. Click here to find out more π
Log in to the Tended Dashboard.
Head to the "Projects" tab, find your project and click "View project".
From the project overview page, click the "Devices" tab at the top of the screen.
Then click "Device management kiosk".
You'll now see the unique QR code and URL for the project's kiosk.
Scan the QR code to activate the Kiosk quickly when physically with a device i.e. phone or tablet, that'll be used for the Kiosk. Devices must have a camera to use this QR code.
Copy the URL and send this via email, chat or WhatsApp so that the recipient can open the Kiosk on their phone, tablet, laptop etc.
The Kiosk will now be activated on the secondary device.
How to assign a Tended device using the Kiosk
Once the Kiosk has been activated, you'll be able to assign Tended devices on multiple devices (phones, tablets etc).
Once the Kiosk is activated on your secondary device, you'll see this screen. Click the screen anywhere to start assigning Tended devices.
Choose to assign the Tended device in Wearable mode for personal use or Asset mode for attaching to site equipment or machinery.
Click either "Wearable" or "Asset".
If you're assigning a device in Asset mode, you'll be prompted to choose an asset type and to give the device a nickname.
Assign your Tended device by QR code or manually enter the 6-digit device ID:
When the device is assigned you'll get a confirmation.
There'll be a 10-second timer in the top might corner of the screen, that counts down to when the next device can be assigned.
How to unassign a Tended device using the Kiosk
The Kiosk can be easily switched between "Device assignment" mode, or "Device removal" mode, for quickly unassigning devices from the project.
After activating the Kiosk, click "Switch to device removal".
The screen will now prompt you to "begin device removal". Click the screen to unassign a device.
Unassign your Tended device by QR code or manually enter the 6-digit device ID:
You'll get a confirmation once your Tended device has been unassigned from the project.
Please note: The Kiosk will not be available after a project has been closed on the Dashboard. All devices are automatically unassigned from a project once it's closed.
If a project is reopened, a new Kiosk QR code/link will need to be activated.
