Introduction to the Event/League Portal

Updated over 4 months ago

This feature is available for the following products:

A league/event portal is a customizable website for your players to view information like pairings, results, photos, and much more. A portal is automatically assigned to every event or league. With the league/event portal, you will no longer have players calling to ask about tee times or calling to sign up for an event. All this information, and much more, is available in the portal (as shown below).

In this article, we will summarize three important portal topics:

  • Customizing Portals

  • The Default Portal

  • Manager Portal Access

  • Player Portal Access

Customizing Portals:

There are a variety of ways to customize your portals to display the information you want, where you want it, and how you want it to look. For instance, you can:

  • Add new pages of information using a variety of widgets available to you.

  • Organize your pages into sections.

  • Add your logo and banner.

  • Add a background image.

  • Change the color scheme.

  • Add a flash message.

  • Display your portals in multiple languages. Click Here for more details.

In the general use case, you will first customize your Default Portal (discussed below) then further customize your specific event/league portals (if necessary).

For more details on customizing your portals, Click Here.

The Default Portal:

Every time an event or league is created, the event or league portal is cloned from your Default Portal. The Default Portal is essentially your portal template. Changes made to your Default Portal do not reflect on events/leagues that have already been created. Because of this, it's important that, before creating new events/leagues, you create and customize your Default Portal to meet your needs.

To access and edit your default portal go to your Customer Center > Customer Settings > Default League/Event Member Portal.

Customize the default portal to fit the needs of all of your events and leagues. Where do you want the results to be displayed? Do you want to upload a nice background image? By doing this, when a new event or league is created, you do not need to build the portal from scratch. The bulk of the work is already done when the portal is cloned over.

Manager Portal Access:

As a manager, you can access an event/league portal from within the event/league using the following:

  • Dashboard "Portal" tile

  • App > Member Portal Address (prefix.golfgenius.com)

Player Portal Access:

As a player, portals can be accessed via:

  • Directories

  • Event/League General Portal Link

  • Event/League GGID Links

  • Event/League Registration Links

  • Golf Hub Page (If enabled)

  • SSO Links (Integrations)

  • Register Golfers to the Portal

Directories:

Directories are a list of events/leagues where players can view event information and access the portals (as shown below).

Directories are typically linked or embedded on club websites and tour/association websites. For more details on directories, Click Here.

Event/League Registration Links:

Many clubs will list Directories on their club website where members can go to access and register for events and leagues. However, sometimes when using Event/League Registration there is a need to email members direct links to register for specific events/leagues. There are a few different types of links to accomplish this, and it is important to understand when to use each type of link. For details on emailing registration links, Click Here.

Golf Hub Page (If enabled):

If you are using Golf Hub Page for your event/league and include the portal link on the page, players will be able to access your event/league portal from that Golf Hub Page. For more details on using Golf Hub Pages, Click Here.

SSO Links (Integration):

SSO (Single Sign On) is an integration feature used with club website providers that will log members into our system once they log into their club website. This allows them to easily access an event or league using an SSO Link. For details on using SSO Links, Click Here.

Register Golfers to the Portal:

Within and event/league, you can register golfers to an event or league portal. This will allow that golfer to create a username and password, if they have not created one before. Further, they will have a link and access to all the private pages of an event portal once they have registered. For complete details on registering golfers to a portal, Click Here.
