Registering Golfers to an Event or League Portal

Updated over 4 months ago

This feature is available for the following products:

When players are added to an event or league, they can be "Registered" or "Not Registered." You can see each player's status in the event or league roster.

This means the player is registered or not registered to the portal.

It is important to understand that sometimes players need to be registered, and sometimes they do not. For instance, if your club uses SSO, registering your players to events and leagues is unnecessary.

In this article, we will discuss what it means to be "registered," when to register players, how to register players, how players register, and how to see who has registered.

What it means to be "registered" to an event or league portal:

Players registered to an event or league portal have an email and password to log into our system. When logging in, they:

  • Have access to the event and league portals (private and public).

  • Can sign up for rounds using Round Signups in their events and leagues.

  • Players can also use their email and password to log into the mobile app (instead of using a GGID) and access all the events and leagues they are registered to.

When to register players to an event or league portal:

Here are some scenarios where you will want to register your players to events and leagues:

  1. Your players use Round Signups or Event and League Registration, and you do not have an SSO integration.

  2. You have private pages on your event or league portals, and you do not have an SSO integration. (Note: Players can alternatively log into these private pages using the League or Event GGID instead of an email/password)

Here are some scenarios where you do not need to register them:

  1. Your club uses SSO (Single Sign-On).

  2. You are not using event and league portals.

  3. All of your event and league portals are public and do not require a login. Additionally, players will not use Round Signups or Event and League Registration.

How to register your players to events and leagues:

Players can be registered to an event or league portal in various ways:

  • Manager registers all players at once: Go to Apps > Register Players to use the Event or League Portal Menu.

Besides the default text that explains how to register, you can include additional text. The text provided by you will be noted as having been provided by the manager. Click "Send," and all the players with an email address in the roster will receive registration instructions. Note: Any players already registered to the event/league portal will not receive an email.

  • Manager registers players individually: Go to Golfers > Event/League Roster. Select "Register" in the "Actions" icon. Enter an email if it is not yet included and click "Register." The player will receive registration instructions.

  • Player registers during Event and League Registration with Payment: If a player registers for an event or league using Event and League Registration that is taking payment, they will be asked to create a password (thus registering them) before completing registration.

  • All Players registered during Event and League Registration with or without payment: (Note: If you would like this feature enabled, please contact support). When a player or players on a team are registered for an event or league (using Event and League Registration) and are not registered with Golf Genius, they will be sent a portal registration email after event registration. Within the email, players can confirm their portal registration and then access the event portal using the email set during event registration. This will work for the following registration options:

    • Member registration with/without payments

    • Guest registration without payments

    • Non-member registration with payments

    • Edit registration by adding another member/guest

    • Players part of a team registration

    • Waitlist registration

    • Pending registration

If a player has not previously registered with Golf Genius, they will be given "Registered, not confirmed" status in your event/league roster. Once the player has confirmed their registration or previously registered with another event/league, they will show " Registered " status on the event/league roster. More details on how the player confirms their registration can be found later in this article.

How players confirm their registration:

When a manager registers one or more players to an event or league portal, the players will receive emailed instructions to confirm their registration (as shown below).

Above is an example of what a registration email will look like to your players. You will see the custom message sent by the manager displayed and the registration instructions below.

Players will click "Confirm Registration," create a permanent password," and be logged into our system, where they can access all the event and league portals they are registered to.

Note 1: Players do not need to create a new password every time they are registered to an event or league portal. They only need to do this once. When registered to any other events and leagues, they will get a confirmation email that they are registered to the new event or league. They will see the event or league portals they are registered to when logging in.

Note 2: If you manage a league and use Round Signups, players can still sign up for rounds via email invitations if they have not created a permanent password. However, they will not be able to log in to the portal to sign up for rounds until they create a permanent password.

Note 3: Players can also use their email and password to log into the mobile app (instead of using a GGID) and access all the events and leagues they are registered to. If they are in the pairings for a round using mobile app scoring, they can also access their scorecard and enter the scores for their pairing group.
