Dash blocks are versatile containers that can be added to any Moodle page that supports blocks. They allow you to present information from your site – such as course progress, user data, or custom content – in a variety of visual formats.
Tip: Use the Boost Union theme to get more flexibility about where to place blocks.
How to add a block
Turn on Edit mode.
Click Add a block and select Dash.
Choose a feature
Build your own – Select a data source to create a custom display.
Ready to use widgets – Select a pre-configured widget.
Content – Select a layout for static text or images.
How to configure a block
After a feature is selected, you can access settings through the three-dot menu on the block.
Note: Standard Moodle block settings, e.g. hide block and permissions, stay available.
Preferences
Used to configure what is displayed in the block.
Layout – The visual structure like tables, grids, or timelines.
Fields – The building blocks of the block, from simple text to smart buttons.
Details area – How additional info appears in modals or expanding rows.
Filters – Search bars and dropdowns for end-users to fine-tune results.
Conditions – Behind-the-scenes rules for what data is retrieved.
Configure Dash block
Used to configure how the block is displayed and its site-wide behavior.
Block settings – Edit the block title.
Header & Footer – Add custom text above or below content.
Appearance – Change colors, borders, and CSS classes.
Empty state – Define what displays if no data is found.
Restrict access – Hide the block based on profile, date, or roles.
Resources – Management of additional assets.
