Troubleshooting Bill of Lading (BOL) Access, Charges, and Signatures

What to do if a BOL isn't accessible without internet, charges aren't calculating correctly, or signature order/locking is confusing.

This guide covers three common Bill of Lading (BOL) situations: losing internet access mid-move, charges or totals not calculating correctly, and questions about signature order and locking.

Using a Bill of Lading Without an Internet Connection

Digital Bills of Lading require an active internet connection today — there's no offline mode for the digital BOL.

If a mover loses signal mid-move, use the paper/PDF BOL as a backup (this will need to be generated by an office user):

  1. Open the job.

  2. Click the Actions button.

  3. Select Print Paper BOL.

The mover can complete the paper version on-site, and the office can enter the details into Chariot once connection is restored.

Why BOL Charges or Totals Might Not Be Calculating Correctly

Job Results and BOL charges are linked — charges added to the Result show on the BOL, and vice versa. A job's total/balance due is always based on the Result, not the Estimate.

If a total looks wrong, check for these common causes:

  • Charges from the Estimate weren't imported into the Result or BOL — the total won't update until they are.

  • The BOL was submitted before time tracking ended. If a mover starts time tracking, submits the BOL, and then stops time tracking afterward, that later time won't populate on the Result.

If charges still don't match after checking the above, reach out to Chariot Support with the job ID.

Digital Signature Order and Locking on the BOL

Movers don't have to collect BOL signatures in a strict order:

  • Final signatures can be collected even if an earlier signature (like the pre-move agreement) is still blank — this is expected behavior, not a bug.

  • Before final signatures can be completed, a payment method must be selected. If one hasn't been chosen yet, a warning will prompt for it.

  • Once final signatures are collected, most BOL fields lock (including the Standard Release of Liability and Work Times) — but signature fields themselves stay open, so a missed earlier signature can still be collected afterward.

  • The BOL can't be fully submitted until all required signatures are completed.

For multi-day jobs or situations where the crew has already left the site, see Manage and Collect BOL Signatures for Multi-Day Jobs or Virtual Signature.
