How to Make Variable Amount Payments
Currently, Chexy's payments are designed to work with fixed amounts. However, there are several workarounds that can help if your bill amount varies:
Option 1: Set up multiple custom payments
If you know the amounts in advance, you can schedule multiple one-time payments to the same payee. See the "Making Multiple Custom Payments" section below for details.
Option 2: Update the amount before each charge
Update your payment amount in Chexy to the most up-to-date amount one business day prior to your charge date (i.e. 5 business days before the payment due date). This way, you will be charged for the correct amount for the upcoming charge date.
Option 3: Set up one-time payments
If you know the amount a few days before your due date, you can set up a one-time payment each month for this payee with the specific amount you're expecting them to withdraw.
Option 4: Set an estimated average amount (PAD payments only)
For Pre-Authorized Debit payments, you can set the payment to an estimated average amount. The system can then automatically adjust by either refunding the difference or charging the remaining balance, as long as the discrepancy isn't too large. If the discrepancy is significant, you may need to reach out to support for further assistance. This only works for PAD payments and would not work for e-Transfer or Bill Pay.
Please note that these are workarounds, so you may need to contact support for assistance as these payments may not be as seamless. Variable amount support is on our roadmap, though we don't have a timeline just yet.
Can I Split Payments Across Cards?
At this time, payments cannot be split across multiple cards.
Each payment is processed using one card only. However, you can choose which card is used for a payment before it processes.
This still allows you to spread spending across cards — just not within a single transaction. You can set up separate payments to the same payee, each using a different card, to distribute the total amount.
Making Multiple Custom Payments
Yes, Chexy allows you to schedule multiple one-time payments to the same payee in one go.
How to set up multiple custom payments:
Set up your first one-time payment, then click "Add" to add another.
A new box will appear for you to input your subsequent one-time payments. You can add multiple payment amounts and custom schedules to the same payee.
Once you've added all your payments, click "Continue" to see the confirmation page with your upcoming payments and future payments based on your custom schedules.
Click "Schedule payment" and you're all set!
