Summary
When you connect your Shopify store, Cuttable asks for a set of permissions on the install screen. Cuttable uses them to understand your catalogue and what sells, so it can make better ads.
Cuttable only ever requests read-only access
Every permission Cuttable asks for begins with Read. There is no "write", "edit" or "manage" permission anywhere in the request.
That means Cuttable cannot:
Create, edit or delete products, prices, descriptions or images in your store.
Change inventory, fulfil or edit orders.
Touch checkout, payments or your storefront.
Make any change to your Shopify store at all.
The permissions Cuttable requests, and why
Shopify use scopes to control which store data and APIs that Cuttable can touch. The list of scopes that cuttable has access to is below:
read_products— imports your product catalogue (titles, images and details) so it can be turned into ads.read_files— pulls additional media stored in your Shopify Files, like videos and lifestyle imagery, so there is more to work with in ads.read_inventory— sees stock levels and cost of goods so Cuttable can prioritise ads for the items most worth promoting.read_orders— identifies your best sellers and items frequently bought together, so ads focus on what already converts.read_reports— analyses your sales reporting to spot trends and recommend what to advertise next.
You can read more about each scope in the Shopify Dev Docs
Why the list can look broad
A few of these permissions, like Read Orders and Read Reports, can feel like more than you would expect for importing products. They are there so Cuttable can do more than just copy your catalogue across, it can work out which products are worth advertising and what to make next.
You stay in control
You can disconnect Shopify at any time by selecting Disconnect on the Shopify card, on the Connectors tab in Settings.
Once disconnected, Cuttable stops reading from your store. You can reconnect whenever you like.
If you would prefer not to connect Shopify at all, you can still add products manually or by CSV import. See Adding Products Without Shopify.
