How does red light therapy work?

Red light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation, uses specific wavelengths of visible red and near-infrared light.

These wavelengths are absorbed by light-sensitive components within the body’s cells. This can support mitochondrial activity and the production of adenosine triphosphate, commonly called ATP. ATP is the energy cells use to perform their normal functions.

Red and near-infrared light may support processes involved in:

  • Temporary relief of pain and inflammation

  • Increased blood flow

  • Muscle recovery

  • Cellular repair

  • Skin health and collagen production

Results can vary between individuals. Red light therapy should not be presented as diagnosing, curing or treating a specific medical condition.
