Value Add Center (VAC)-related error messages
VAC errors can be presented either on the VAC's display, or on the VAC status on the LaundroPortal. In most cases, if an error is displayed on the VAC's display, there is also an error being displayed in the VAC status of the LaundroPortal.
When errors are present in both places, it is always recommended to troubleshoot the issue based on the VAC status error shown on the LaundroPortal:
Value Add Center Status Messages (as seen in the VAC status section of the LaundroPortal):
VAC Status Message | Description/Solution |
These bill acceptor errors are described in detail in our Bill Acceptor Issues article.

| The VAC is unable to enable the bill acceptor when a customer places a Laundry Card in the Card Holder, or tries to buy a new Laundry Card. This is usually caused by a full cash box, or by crumpled bills or debris blocking the sensors in the bill acceptor's lower housing.
See the "Cant enable bill acceptor" section of our Bill Acceptor Issues article for troubleshooting steps. |
Card dispenser jam or out of order
| The Card Dispenser is unable to push out a new card. This is usually caused by a card jammed in the dispenser (or in the slot where new cards come out), or by a loose wiring connection between the Card Dispenser and the VAC Control Board.
See the troubleshooting section in the Card Dispenser Issues article for your Card Dispenser model:
|
Card dispenser - loose card detected
| The Card Dispenser is detecting a loose card in, or around, the area where new Laundry Cards are dispensed, which prevents it from dispensing new cards. This is usually a card stuck partway through the dispense path, or a card (a Laundry Card, or even a credit/debit card) that was dropped inside the VAC cabinet or pushed into the dispenser slot.
See the troubleshooting section in the Card Dispenser Issues article for your Card Dispenser model:
A loose card can also cause every new card dispense to fail with "No Card" or "Card Write Error" in the VAC Log, with the same Card Number on every attempt. See Syncotek: All cards that are dispensed result in "No Card" or "Card Write Error". |
| Card Reader 1 is the NFC/RFID reader that reads/writes information (such as card balances) to Laundry Cards that are placed in the VAC's Card Holder. This error results in the inability for users to add value to existing Laundry Cards.
For details on where the Card Reader 1 board is located, and how to replace it, see the "Replacing the VAC's Card Holder Reader1 Board" section of our Replacing the VAC's NFC/RFID Reader Boards article. |
| Card Reader 2 is the NFC/RFID reader that reads/writes information (such as card balances) to Laundry Cards as they are dispensed. This error results in the inability for users to purchase new Laundry Cards.
This is usually caused by a loose wiring harness connection between the NFC Card Reader 2 board and the VAC Control Board, or by a faulty NFC Card Reader 2 board.
See the troubleshooting section in the Card Dispenser Issues article for your Card Dispenser model:
To replace the board, see the "Replacing the Card Dispenser's Card Reader2 Board" section of our Replacing the VAC's NFC/RFID Reader Boards article. |
Low disk space: ##
| This message does NOT indicate a problem with your system. If you see a Low disk space message, it means the memory on your VAC Control Board is running low. This can happen during a software update: sometimes the VAC doesn't delete all of the old files after the software update is complete. Your system will operate without issue when this message is present. If you see this message, please contact our support team so we can clear all the unused files from your VAC's memory. |
More than 2 consecutive Card dispense errors (see VAC Log report) | The VAC tried to dispense 3 Laundry Cards in a row, and each attempt resulted in an error in the VAC Log. This is usually caused by the Card Dispenser being unable to physically push out a card, a defective Laundry Card, or a faulty NFC Card Reader 2 board.
Check the VAC Log to see the Result for the most recent card dispenses, then see the troubleshooting section in the Card Dispenser Issues article for your Card Dispenser model: |
More than 5 consecutive non-approved Credit/Debit sales (see VAC Log)
| This is a warning message that indicates you could have a problem with the payment terminal, or with its configuration. However, you will also see this message if a customer has an issue with their credit/debit card that is unrelated to your system (wrong PIN, insufficient funds, customer manually aborts the transaction, etc.). Any 5 consecutive non-approved transactions will trigger this warning. Under the Reports section, look at the VAC Log report to review the transaction records for the last 5 transaction attempts:

PAX BroadPOS not responding (re-install)
| Case 1 - If this is a new installation:
Case 2 - If this is an existing PINpad that was previously working correctly:
|
Payment terminal error | Case 1: This terminal was working before:
Case 2: This is a new location:
|
Payment terminal not detected
| There's no communication between the PINpad (credit card) terminal and the VAC Control Board.
Case 2 - This is a new location:
|
Payment terminal not detected (no ethernet connection)
| This is a variation of the "Payment terminal not detected" error; however, the "(no ethernet connection)" message indicates that the VAC Control Board is not detecting anything that's potentially plugged into the VAC's AUX1 port (the Ethernet port the VAC uses to communicate with connected PINpad terminals). |
Payment terminal software/App problem
| Case 1 - If this is a new installation: Case 2 - If this is an existing PINpad that was previously working correctly:
|
The VAC is unable to communicate with the receipt printer. This is usually caused by the printer not getting power (power switch OFF, or a loose power cable), a printer error (flashing RED light on the printer), or a loose data cable between the printer and the VAC Control Board.
If the Card Dispenser was recently converted from an Asahi-Seiko to a Syncotek Card Dispenser, the "Printer Receipt" setting in the VAC settings may need to be changed from "Serial Printer" to "USB Printer".
See the "Printer out of order" section of our Receipt Printer - Paper spec and Issues article for troubleshooting steps.
| The printer is unable to detect receipt paper. This usually means the receipt paper roll is empty, but it could also mean the paper was installed incorrectly, or the printer's paper sensor is dirty or defective.
See the "Printer out of paper" section of our Receipt Printer - Paper spec and Issues article for troubleshooting steps. |
| The VAC Control Board isn't detecting the touch monitor's HDMI connection. In most cases, this is caused by an HDMI cable that's faulty or not fully plugged in on both ends. Less often, it's caused by an issue with the touch monitor's HDMI input port, or the VAC Control Board's HDMI output port.
See the "Touch Monitor - HDMI connection not detected" section of our Touch Monitor Issues article for troubleshooting steps. |
The VAC Control Board isn't detecting the touch monitor's touch inputs. This is usually caused by the USB cable that connects the touch monitor to the VAC Control Board being faulty, or not fully plugged in.
See the "Touch Monitor - USB Touch not detected" section of our Touch Monitor Issues article for troubleshooting steps.
| The VAC isn't communicating with the LaundroPortal. This is usually caused by an internet issue in the location, but can also be caused by a hardware or software issue with the VAC. While offline, the VAC can still accept cash, but credit/debit card purchases are unavailable, and transaction records won't upload to the LaundroPortal until the VAC reconnects.
See our VAC Offline and Internet Issues article for troubleshooting steps. |
Warning: Payment terminal license screen (click ? for more info) | The PINpad terminal connected to this VAC is currently showing its license agreement screen. This usually occurs if the software running on a PAX A35 PINpad terminal has been recently installed/re-installed.
Someone on location will need to accept the license agreement on the PINpad itself to correct this issue.
See the Fixing the PAX A35 terminal License screen article for more details. |
| There's no communication between the Wireless Network Controller (WNC) and the VAC Control Board. The WNC on the primary Value Add Center (VAC01) is responsible for wireless communication with the Card Readers.
See our Wireless Network Controller (WNC) Issues article for troubleshooting steps. |
Card Reader related error messages
Card Reader errors can be presented either on the Card Reader's display, or on the Machine list for that specific Card Reader on the LaundroPortal. In most cases, if an error is displayed on the Card Reader's display, there is likely also an error being displayed in the Machine list on the LaundroPortal.
When errors are present in both places, it is recommended to troubleshoot the issue based on the error message seen in the Machine list on the LaundroPortal:
Card Reader Messages (as seen on the physical reader's display):
Message on Reader's Display | Description/Solution |
ACCESS DENIED Code: A01
| This message will be displayed if:
|
BALANCE TOO HIGH
| All Card Readers have a "Balance Limit" setting that sets the maximum balance a Laundry Card can have when interacting with that specific Card Reader. |
| *This is not a message that will be displayed on the reader's screen, but a description of what the reader's screen may look like. If you have a reader that powers ON (green backlight is visible) but there is no text on the screen, it is likely that this reader has experienced a hardware failure and will need to be replaced.
See our Reader Display Blank article for more details. |
| The Card Reader failed to load its firmware correctly. If power cycling the machine doesn't clear this message, the Card Reader's memory is likely corrupted, and the reader board will need to be replaced.
See our Reader says "In Bootloader" article for more details. |
| The reader is unable to communicate with the wireless network created by the Value Add Center (VAC01). This is usually the result of:
See our Card Reader says "Can't Join" article for troubleshooting steps. |
MACHINE ERROR
| This is indicating a problem with the machine, NOT an issue with the Card Reader.
Check the machine for any abnormal behaviour, or any error codes on the machine's display itself. Once the error on the machine has been cleared, the Card Reader's "Machine Error" message will clear on its own as well. |
No Comm With Machine
| The Card Reader is unable to communicate with the machine using Serial communication, or the machine and reader are out of sync. Either the machine is set to Pulse mode, while the reader is trying to use Serial communication, or the reader and machine are both trying to use Serial communication but are unable to establish communications. Check the screen on the actual machine to figure out if the machine is set to Serial. Consult the reader installation article, for your specific machine type, to find out how to set your particular machine into Serial communication mode. If you know that your machine should be set up for Pulse mode, then the reader should also be set to the correct Pulse control type. Contact our support team if you don't know which control type your machine should be using. |
NOT ACTIVATED
| The Card Reader is in factory default. Simply place your location's Activation Card on the reader to activate, and configure, the reader.
Activation Cards are specific to each Support ID AND Location ID, so ensure that you are using the correct Activation Card for your location. If you don't have an Activation Card, or have misplaced it, you can convert a regular user card into an Activation Card using the LaundroPortal.
If a reader that was previously activated suddenly says NOT ACTIVATED, see our Reader automatically gets Deactivated (says Not Activated) article. |
| The reader is unable to communicate with the RFID/NFC circuit board on the Card Reader's electronic assembly, so it won't interact with any Laundry Cards or Mobile App accounts. This is usually caused by a software issue that temporarily disables the reader's RFID/NFC antenna (a power cycle may clear it), or by a hardware failure with the Card Reader board.
See our RFID Error article for troubleshooting steps. |
| Both versions of this message mean essentially the same thing. This is the message that will be displayed if a banned card is placed onto a Card Reader or VAC kiosk. |
Card Reader Status Messages (as seen in the Machine Status section of the LaundroPortal):
Machine Status Message | Description/Solution |
Check if machine exists. Remove this row if not.
| When a reader has been offline for an extended period of time, especially during a new installation, the normal "Timeout - check reader/machine" message will turn into this message. If this reader/machine no longer exists in your location, you can safely delete this reader from the LaundroPortal's Machines list by clicking the "X" icon. |
Machine Error
| This is indicating a problem with the machine, NOT an issue with the reader. The machine (washer/dryer) is telling the reader that it is experiencing some kind of error. This error will sometimes be followed by a description of the type of error the machine is experiencing. (E.g. "Drive Board Error", "Output Board Error", "Drain Error", "Door Lock", "Door Open", "Fill Error", "No Water Flow", etc.) Check the machine for any error codes, or abnormal behaviour. Once the error is corrected on the machine side, the Card Reader's Machine Error will clear on its own. |
Machine/Serial Communication Error
| If you've just replaced the reader, and are now seeing this message, check to make sure you have the correct reader board for that machine:
If those things are all correct, or if this is an existing reader that is suddenly displaying this message, you may have a machine issue. Try doing a swap test to confirm whether or not you have a reader problem, or a machine problem. Consult the reader installation article, for your specific machine, for additional info. |
Manual Mode
| This does not indicate an issue with the Card Reader; this message means that the machine is currently in some kind of manual/service/programming mode. Once the machine is returned to its normal operating mode, this "Manual Mode" message will clear automatically. |
| The Card Reader isn't connected to VAC01's wireless network. This can be caused by the machine or reader not getting power, the reader being activated to a different location, or wireless interference in the location.
See our Portal says "Timeout - check reader/machine" article for troubleshooting steps. |
| VAC01 is offline, so the Card Reader's status can't be reported to the LaundroPortal.
See our VAC Offline and Internet Issues article for troubleshooting steps. |
